Transmission hump numbers - 09/12/11 02:50 AM

I picked up a nice used transmission hump this weekend, it has some numbers stamped in the top, SS27 and a 1, is it an OEM or aftermarket? Is it a date stamp? I think its for a B-body. Thanks Tim

On OE sheetmetal the SS stamping stands for Sterling Stampworks (or something like that?) It was one of Chryslers sheetmetal stamping locations.

I do not know if any of those markings are being replicated on the new parts?

All I can tell you is that the stamping is from the Factory Sheetmetal Plant. If you look at (probably) every piece of sheetmetal on our cars, each one has a stamping. Most on my car start with SS. So, I would say it is OEM, as I have not seen any aftermarket stuff with these stampings. Not even AMD sheetmetal has these stampings.

Maybe licensing reasons. Can't help you on whether it is for a B-body. Check the fit on the B body floorpan. It should fit extremely well to the profile of the floorpan.

Good Luck,
Greg.
