70 challenger a833 restoration - 08/23/11 11:02 AM

putting a new clutch into a friends challenger-need pics of how they left the factory. cast iron with what inspection markings-it`s an l.a. built car dec 69 23 spline behind a 383. anyone got pics of original or restored 4 speed so i can make it look more factory correct-someone painted it orange so it`s going back to the cast look.
all the best
frank.

This is from a '69 RR built in St Louis (4/69) but 70 transmissions would be similarly marked(from what I have seen) LA plant or otherwise. These are the markings and numbers I reproduced as found on my original. If you use paint stripper you may get lucky and get the orange paint off while retaining original painted markings underneath - most of the markings stuck pretty good and have good staying power (unless previously blasted/stripped). The large, three digit number on the side is the last three of part number found on build sheet or in Galens white part number book. This number I have seen in white (69RR), light blue (70 RR 440+6), pink (73 cuda) and probably others. I have also seen one or two white paint splotches on top of tail shaft.

Good luck to you Frank! Let me know if you find anything upon stripping.

Just one remark - since I forgot (or did not read the service manual) it and it was a pain:

If you install it, don't forget to slide the clutch fork in BEFORE you fix the transmission.
