Congratulations to Mike Mancini, OE Gold + Best Of Show - 08/17/11 04:10 PM
Id like to congratulate Mike Mancini from American Musclecar Restorations in Rhode Island on being awarded OE Gold and Best Of Show at the Mopar Nationals on the 1970 Duster they restored.
It’s the first soup to nuts resto they’ve done so far. They have done plenty of partial work per their customer requests, but this is their first full resto from Mikes new shop.
The car is a 318 Duster that is still in the hands of the original owner.
The car is absolutely gorgeous and im real happy to see Mike awarded for his work.
I don’t have any pictures of it, does anyone else?

I saw it on the ramps but didn't get to check it out up close. Hopefully some one will post detailed pics of the 318.

Great job Mike!!!! I was able to look at the car in depth at Carlisle and I can tell you it is fabulous!!!!
I hope you take the whole crew out for a big steak dinner....
I hope someone has a good picture of the car so everyone can see what a great job you did.
Isn't it great that the last 2 years Best of Show winners were A bodies with 6 cylinder and 318 motors? Nice to see a change now and then but I hope that the performance cars keep getting restored to this great level again in the future.

Congrats! Few have any idea what it takes to accomplish this award. Great car and great work from a great company.

That is 2 O.E. Gold Certifications in the first 2 showings of the car.
The ICCA awarded the 1970 Duster O.E. Gold this year at Chryslers at Carlisle.

Congratulations on your OE Gold and Best of Show for 2011. 1970 Plymouth A bodies are rockin ! Sorry we weren't able to see it first hand at the Nationals - we had a project going with all the cars over the weekend .
Anybody have any pictures of the Duster from the Show ???

Thank you everyone for the compliments. Very few understand the amount of dedication an OE level car takes, believe me it takes a lot out of you. In this case it was worth the efforts. I am thrilled the Judges received the car very well and am humbled by the "Best of Show" award.
My most thanks goes to my incredable crew that each had a hand in the restoration but also my great customer that allowed me to take the car to this extreme level of originality.

so nice to see not that there are people out there that have intrest in things that don't have 3 carbs or spark plugs through the valve covers. I love seeing those cars but to have a customer that wants it the way he bought it new very cool. Congrats. To me doing cars like that will only increase your business. People will ultimatly think hey if he can do that with a 318 car he can surely do that to my hemi.

Mike.....I was asking Tony D the other day how his daytona was coming along and he was excited to inform me that your shop put out an A body that won OE Gold at the Nats. I havent seen any detail pics of the car though with a score as high as the score you rec'd it must be amazing. To get within a small handful of points of the black valiant....the car I consider the gold standard of workmanship and technique....is one heck of an accomplishment. Hopefully the owner of the car is quite pleased. We all look forward to seeing Tony's daytona when it's done. Of course a daytona is a lot more complex than a duster but with Tony's ability to supply you with juicy parts and your now proven skills it should make for a phenomenal corroboration. Yes the door lock ferrules where a point of conversation. This car never had them installed. My research found several original examples without them. This was an LA built car with several deviations from other plants.

Can you show us a picture of the LA plant undercarriage on this car?? I've never seen a LA plant car with a high level restored undercarriage.
Is this the first LA built car to to win OE gold?

I have seen several original/unmolested examples of both 1970 and 1971 Dusters and Demons (from the LA plant in particular) none of them had ferrules from the factory.

Congratulations Mike M. and your team. It was an extreme pleasure to look at your presentation of the Duster at this year's nationals.Congratulations on your acheivement. The last few posts are a prime example why the Mopar hobby is like no other. Different plants, different shifts , multiple suppliers are why that no one can put these vehicles in a pigeonhole or a box like from time to time they try. Virtually every vehicle is like a fingerprint, they may be similar but at the same time are different. I am so glad this thread did not lead down the rabbit trail of people sideline quarterbacking vehicles that they have not had the opportunity to personally view. All the contestants this year brought prime examples of their respective body type. Hold a Mopar flag high and do not waiver.
