Correct Interior Color for 69 GTX

Correct Interior Color for 69 GTX - 09/28/08 10:40 PM

i have a 69 GTX Convert. Having trouble figuring correct interior colors. The exterior is B5 blue. white top. Currently the Dash pad and head rests look like B7, the seats, door panels, doors and carpet are B5. Legendary told me B5 was not a color used for interior seats or carpets for a 69 GTX. My plate reads as follows:

26 END
C55 H51 M31 M33 R11 V6W
B5 B5 P6D B7 128 173981
E86 D32 RS27 L9G 210285

Anyone help on the correct interior colors???

Thanks

Re: Correct Interior Color for 69 GTX - 09/28/08 11:08 PM

P6D B7

Your interior decodes as:
P6D - "premuim grade, vinyl bucket seat interior - BLUE"
B7 - Upper Door Frame paint - "Jamaica Blue metallic"

There was only one blue bucket seat interior available in a Plymouth b-body in 1969.
The door frame color gives you an indication of the light or darkness of the overall scheme, but many shades of blue will be found.

Legendary usually has the most accurate reproduction interior available.

Is your interior original or have pieces been replaced/repaired over the years?

I thought the colors were originl BUT I guess not. The upper door frames are B5 blue. The only things that are B7 is the dash pad and the headrests. The convert boot is also B5 so I guess that should also be B7 to match the seats. If the interior is to be all B7, what are the 2 B5 numbers on the plate for?

The two B5 numbers on the tag are for the body.

B7 interior is really bright blue. It's not darker blue like the 1969 B7 exterior color. My original carpet with my B7 interior is dark blue. Yours would be too unless you had a 4 speed with no console. Here's a photo of my original (unrestored) upper door and door panels. Maybe what you think is B5 is actually OK?

Here's my dash. Again, this is the B7 blue interior in my 1969 Road Runner. The paint code for the interior paint is called Baltic Blue. Of course, you will have a different mix for the A pillar plastic pieces. The mix is lacquer and should have a "V" suffix for vinyl. The dash is called "Suede" and is originally a lacquer paint. The doors and rear side panels are probably a semi-gloss enamel or gloss with some flattener? I left my doors and rear panels in original paint because it has a certain "patina" to it that repainted interiors just can't match and I could live with the minor wear on them.

Legendary Interiors stated that the interior colors for a RR in 69 were not the same as the GTX. If anyone has pictures of a correct interior for the car as described, if you could post them, I would really appreciate it. This is driving me crazy!!

The only thing different in the interior is the GTX woodgrain door panels and trim on the dash. I am pretty certain that the paint colors, dash pads and seats will be the same.

1969 Plymouth b-body

GTX & Sport Satellite - P6D - premium-grade blue buckets

Road Runner - H2B - high-grade blue bench & M6B mid-grade blue buckets

I know the difference between "P" & "M" is basically the wood grain door panels and dash ...
but why the change from "D" to "B" if they are both the same "blue" vinyl?

There might be something to the different "blues" but I do not know, does it make any sense?
X is black in both
S is pewter in both
G is green in both
T is tan in both
H is tan & white in both
F is green & white in both
W is black & white in both
&
C is blue & white in both

Dan, the "H2B" code interior had a two tone component and a second type of vinyl. As far as M6B...

I was cruising "HAMTRAMCK HISTORICAL" and stole the same pics, just didn't get them cut up and posted, that work thing getting in the way again.
It's a shame there isn't better/more consistent documented info available to answer questions.

I'm still having problems with a P6C interior (blue & white) in a '69 GTX 4-spd (no console) convertible:

Are all 4 arm rests white, or are the fronts white & the rears blue?
Carpet - blue or black?
I think I got this one. - UDF = "B7" & the boot is blue.

I think the "D" vs. "B" is due to the door panels for the bucket seat Road Runner also having the two-tone blue coloration.
JD's pics are RR bucket seat door panels. Correct? Where are your seat pics?

Are Road Runner vs. GTX bucket seats different in any way? Seat medallions?

Parts book shows pads are white and both white and blue boots are listed for P6C.

Here's P6V in a Coronet. I assume the color scheme is similar for P6C GTXs. (blue rear panels with white pads; blue seatbelts. I'm too lazy to look up all the PNs)

P6C - I had one non-console column auto though.

Door panels and all 4 armrests are white, meaning all vinyl door and rear trim panels are white.Including the seats.
Carpet, dash and frame,upper-lower door frames,,A-pillar trim, kick panels, steering column, and rear vert panels were B7 blue

Seats are the same, no medallions, just the plymouth emblem at the top middle of the rear seat back.

White door panels would have white armrests F & R in a GTX or RR whether it's woodgrain or not and blue door panels will have blue armrests.

Carpet will be black if it's a 4 speed with no console. All automatic and console cars will have dark blue carpet
