Good guy alert, Scott Smith, HARMS, 340 TQ carb resto!! - 07/27/11 01:08 AM

I had Scott restore the carb for my 71 Duster 340....WOW is all I can say!! The results speak for themselves. This carb was dirty and dull gray when he got it, sorry don't have a pic that I can upload. Great work and a great guy to deal with, Scott you have another very satisfied customer!! Great work, I just had to share.
Thank you Scott.

Yeah he has one actually. I just can't afford/ justify paying for one.

Another piece of turned out by Scott Smith, when are all the people going to learn not to send their carbs any where else, got you didn't I. Nice work didn't expect anything else NOW hammer on him for the solenoid.
Remember he allows one restored unit per carb done or is that one per unit I don't know it changes all the time, Oh it's one per application now I got it right I think

The one Tony has looks like a restorable solenoid, I can likely get it looking as good as the one pictured here.

*FWIW the one I offered is not one I own, it's one a customer asked me to sell for him, he is asking $475.00 for it (yes, spendy!) but as rare as they are becoming that isn't out of line these days. My fee to restore one is $75.00, or free if suplied with a carb job (yes Martin, that's one per job, not one per carb ). I can't promise they will function, it's a cosmetic restoration only.

That's a good price IMO!

Scott will you forgive me if I put a repop solenoid on my car? Theres a reason I can't afford a Hemi car.

Can you post a pic of the solenoid mounted on a 71 340?

Hi Chris,

I started work on your carburetor today, looks like a good one so far. I am writing a magazine article on AVS builds, would you mind me using your carb and your name for my build example?

Well, I was always hoping to get my car featured in a Mopar magazine one day.

I guess if I can't get the whole car, I'll settle for the carb! LOL

Actually, it was luck of the draw. I was actually very surprised about it.

Believe it or not, I bought that carb about 5 years ago off Ebay for a whopping $35.

I needed the correct one for my 71 GTX. It just happen to be complete and correct for my application.

Excuse my lack of knowledge but do these carbs need a solinoid? Isn't there one already attached to the starter motor or does this replace it?

The reason I'm asking is I have the same carb 4968S and it doesn't have a solinoid. I think someone said they were only needed if you had factory air conditioning.

By 71 most applications had a carb solenoid to help comply with ever increasing emmisions requirements.

The parts book indicates that the 4968S does come with a solenoid, part number is: 3438 303. The book also shows a bracket, etc for the solenoid as being needed.

Re: Good guy alert, Scott Smith, HARMS, 340 TQ carb resto!! - 09/22/11 03:50 AM

The version being sold by Dales Cuda shop is not correct for his 72 Thermo-Quad but rather is a correctly shaped replacment unit for the popular and rare DR1114429 solenoid. I've purchased the Dale's unit for customers who wanted one but you should be aware that they are not as strong as originals and often do not work properly because of it, (see attached photo comparing the internals). They also lack the all important DR1114429 part# stamping. See photo in next post of a correctly stamped original.

The finished carbs look awesome Scott.

Are they engine tested after restoration?

Do you do Holley carbs?

Yes, every carb is test run for leaks or build issues and adjusted on a running mule engine before shipping.

Yes, I can restore any 2, 4, or 6 BBL, Holley, Carter AVS, AFB, WCFB, or Thermo-Quad, and any Rochester carburetor.

Any other questions or special requests feel free to inquire.
