1970 Barracuda code - M48 - What is it?

1970 Barracuda code - M48 - What is it? - 09/16/08 03:42 AM

Hey gang,
This one has me scratching my head.

A few years ago I received a broadcast sheet for a 1970 slant six Barracuda with the M48 code on it.

I assumed it was a typo for M46 since it uses the same box on the broadcast sheet.

But today, I received yet another 1970 Barracuda broadcast sheet, 318 car this time, with M48 on it as well. M has to be some kind of moulding, but what?

Both cars are also coded seperately for M21, M26, & M38, so it rules those out of course.

Does anyone know what it could be? I can not find anything on it anywhere.....

If someone has an original window sticker or factory invoice showing a description for M48 on a 1970 Barracuda I would love to see it.

Thanks,
Barry

Sounds like the cars were both ordered with the lower quarter side scoops Barry, and have typos for the M46. Any way to verify if they came with them, sure you tried already if so. Wish I could help, can't wait to see what turns out/up from this.

An M46 typo would be possible...

...except M46 was not available with the A46 package. The 318 car is coded A46, so M46 should not be possible....

The sheet or the /6 car has some typed data missing, both after the numeral "4". It could be that it has A46 as well, but the second digit did not print.

I compared both sheets to see if they were from the same printer too, just in case...

But they are not.

Both cars are also Chrysler Executive Lease cars (Y22) if that helps at all.

One more bit of info, the /6 car is coded for the V5X body side mouldings, which were also not available on M46 cars.

That could be Dan? I would love to see some paperwork that lists it, the grille trim would make sense though.

Nope to the Cuda trim, neither car is coded M88.

The A46 package included these mouldings;
upper door frame, drip rail, grille surround, wheel lip, & deck lid.

Upper door frame moldings were not available on E-Bodies (no upper door frames) but both cars are coded for;

Drip Rail Mouldings - M21

Wheel Lip Mouldings - M26

Deck Lid Lower Mouldings - M38

So, the grille mouldings may be the M48........

By Grille mouldings do you mean the Gran Coupe/AAR ones or the three black moulded pieces painted with a red line on each? The 23 section of the parts book shows three pics of various M46 equipped cars ALL with the three piece grille mouldings.

i am going to get the chrome aar/gran coupe pieces on the front grille. There was an old barracuda around here that was just your standard car and had those moldings, owner said they were original and it wasnt a gran coupe or aar

If I get a chance I'll try to look through my stuff and see if I can come up with anything.

Is the M48 on the fender tag or do you just have the build sheets for them? What plant were they made at?

I just have the broadcast sheets. Both cars are from Hamtramck.
