The Ford oval air cleaner assemblies are different than the Mr. Norms 6 pack Tri Power air cleaner in the picture.
I also have a Mr. Norms Tri Power air cleaner, that has a cut to fit, K & N air filter element in it.
This question gets asked, from time to time, what original air filter element was used, and to my knowledge, it never has been answered.

Hi Jim,

How are you doing? Do you ever hear from Lou?

The short version............
Met Ed At the 05 Mopar nats, Borrowed him a sunroof duster headliner for a pattern, In Jan 07 I won a bid on Ebay for a NOS sunroof handle and had it sent to him. (He was at work and could not bid on the item). Now its over 4 years and I am still waiting. I have asked for the sunroof handle and headliner back serveral times. Have approx 25 PM's from him that he will send the stuff back. Now he tells me he broke the handle. It any of this is incorrect Ed Please let us know.

Hope to see you at Rooshes in Feb. Jim.

Re: Air filter for 71 GSS 340 six pack Demon TRI-POWER - 02/27/11 06:39 PM

Hello,
Good Question indeed!!!!

I have an original NOS as in "Still in the original box" Mr Norms tri power air cleaner set ups as a spare for my 1971 Demon GSS car.
It was made by Segal and I looked all thru the paperwork and the box and found NO PART NUMBER for the air filter itself !!!!
I bought it off of ebay years ago ( 10 yrs or so ????) and now ONLY use it for when I show my car, and instead use another that I have (pictured both together ) that I use to drive around on and hence keep the original only for shows.
I will post the pictures to show you what I have found in the 34 years I have owned the car...
I, like so many others have been looking and finding nothing.
Segal went out of business a long time ago.
Cal Custom was not the manufacturer !!!!
I cut and used a six pack K&N and just cut a section out of it and reglued it back together using the base plate and lid from one of my norms cars to hold it in shape until the glue dries...
The ford version is not the same and is skinnyier in the middle portion and not at aall the correct shape. ( I know 'cause I tried it once back in 1984 and ended up giving it to a ford guy because it would not fit. The Chevy ones are not a match and are even worse fit.
The motor pictured with the original NOS air cleaner is during a recent rebuild of my 1971's motor and it used chevy carbs and not the mopar carbs as stock "Mr Norms"..
We just rebuilt them and are still using the carbs it was born with..

I will look for more info about it and hope the pictures I included help you.
It was a paper filter element.
I collect Mr Norms cars and have 5 in my collection of 9 mopars that are original from GSD.
I can be reached at 407-947-9005.

Hi, I would like to know where you CUT IT also Please !!!
I like the way it look's more original (white filter material like my original NOS is...!!!! )
It certinly looks better than using my K&N filter like I have been using as for more daily usage...
Thankyou for your time.

According to Norm they made a batch of 50 and then another batch of unknown quantity.

Other than the 68 Hemi A-Bodies these were the only other Hurst modified cars. The 69 M-Codes were all 100% Chrysler built.

1968 - They are the rarest of all the GSS's as less than 10 are known to exist. Do you have any paperwork with that car?

We have 4 original 1968 Mr. Norms M-Code GSS Darts and none of them have the Dart GT style D A R T letters on the quarters so I would like to see the paperwork also... Norm said he made 48 of them, I know where there are 14 so far!

Are the wheel covers original? So did the early 68's get the 67 mag style wheel covers? Thanks in advance.

On another note there was a Mr. Norms aircleaner that was listed for a Vette that I found on e-bay and the opening bid was only $50 after it was on for a few days it was cancelled then relisted as a Mr. Norms Tri power air cleaner and then it sold easily...I was hoping to add it to my collection but someone must have told him what it really fit......

Still less than the reg 340 71 air cleaner, probably due to the E-body 340 cars in need of them

So was my original A12 air cleaner.
Though the outer section was cut off, so it may have come off one like the seller stated it did.
