Broke my door glass. How to install?

Broke my door glass. How to install? - 02/01/11 06:25 PM

So I removed my passenger side front door glass to replace the broken sliders.

It was a [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] to remove and replace since the service manual is less than helpful.

During the removal, I removed a bolt from the horizontal slider thinking I needed to take it out to get the regulator out. maybe I did. maybe i didnt need to. i dont know. i was winging it.

well I think when I replaced that bolt, I did something wrong- maybe over tightened it cause two days after I got the glass in, the window shattered on me.

So now I need to find a new door glass (if i can) and install it.

Anyone have any tips on how to do this without ending up with little squares of glass everywhere?

I can't help you with your question, but I will say this: Unless you know where to find a dang near perfect OE piece of replacement glass (good luck)...

Buy your glass either from ECS or whomever sells the glass they do. Everything else is wavy garbage (I've been through it all on my drivers side glass).

ECS will sell you the glass with or without the Chrysler logo/date code and honestly, the glass is less wavy than the OE glass on my passenger door! Just fantastic. A little more $$$, but absolutely worth it.

And by the way... if anyone out there wants a BRAND NEW, never used repro Cuda drivers quarter window, I'll give it to you for $20 shipping included. Not a for sale ad or a highjack, I'm just trying to be a nice guy.

Jim = three letters---Bad = three letters..... Jack = four letters---Good = four letters.... Try to keep that in mind...

So I tried ECS's phone number on their website and it said it was disconnected. any ideas?

I absolutely love doing E Body side glass and this is one of the very reasons why I do...

...For I too, learned this lesson many moons ago...

The horizontal slider bar bolts to the glass with two different types of bolts. The forward one is a phillips head screw type bolt, and the rear one is a 7/16 head 1/4-20 bolt. There's also a rubber plug in the center of that bar that should be in place.

The front bolts screws into the plastic retainer in the glass and is a no brainer...It's the rear bolt that you MUST be careful with...It must pass through a metal spacer washer, a rubber hose insulator and the into the track guide on the backside of the glass.

If you don't have all these little items in place the glass will break...I'm 100% certain of it...

these parts were in the kit i bought. I dont know if I used them or reused the originals thinking "hmmmm, these parts look fine. I'll just reuse them instead of screwing something up by replacing them"

and then I may have mixed up the bolt for the rear horizontal track and the rear vertical slider track top bolt. i remember wondering which one was which

The parts I'm referring to, don't come in any kit that I know of, except possible the front plastic bolt retainer?

If your doors were never messed with before...The two bolts I mentioned should be unique to all the other hardware in the door. There will only be one of each.

in the kit, i remember that there was a rubber tubelike washer/insulator. kinda sounded like the part you were describing

As for the horizontal track, I didnt remove the front philips head bolt- just the rear bolt. I also removed the vertical track bolts for the front and rear tracks.

The front vertical track used a allen headed bolt for the top bolt. The rear vertical track used a hex head that was (I think) the same size (but a different shape)than the hex head bolt that hold the rear of the horizontal track to the glass.
