I have seen both as well - mostly silver but a few of the silver ones had gold traces which lead me to believe the gold wore off back to the silver. Seen more gold on 70-up......more silver on 69 hoses.

I agree with FJ5, I'd consider either correct but the silver with a "gold wash" is more predominant and was likely what they all had or were supposed to have as an anti corrosion metal finish, just some had less gold initially or it wore off quickly. I've noticed the same variables in many plated parts on most years, a high degree of variability, likely due to various parts suppliers, etc. having different plating processes, thier blue prints likely called out a corrosion resistance spec that was to be met regardless of the shade or tint of the actual color.

The trouble is that todays plating processes vary just as much, trying to duplicate older plating finishes can be an artistic challenge, I go through it all the time with carburetor parts.

Can the ends of a old PS hose be replated with gold zink and not damage the rubber ?? Does anyone offer this service ? The parts store replacements use a different crimp and mos NOS ones I have seen dont have a fresh NEW look because of shelf wear and age.

Yes - but the prep and plating need to be done just right. I have never plated a hose but Gibson has been doing them for years and I gave Moparo on this site a couple of mine to do. I do prep all my other stuff myself....Unless he chimes in I'll find out the right way to do it for you.

These have to be one of the hardest thing to duplicate since the plating on these hoses was crappy and the yellow looked very pail and dull in some cases.

To prep these to plate.
1. Clean the inside of the hose with hot soapy water .
2. Plug the ends of the pipe ends with plastic plugs.
3. Tape the hose rubber hose near the crimped ends to protect them.
4. Glass bead the hose ends.
5. Bend hose into a U shape so the crimp ends are level and wirer together.
6. Bring to you plater and ask him only to dip the ends.
7. Normally the plating is too good. You can dull it with 00000 steel wool.

That is how I do them.
