Is the battery tray in a 71 b-body painted body color or is it just black? Thanks for any help on this.

All started as body color but some (not all) were blacked out at the same time the rad support was being hit with the black-out paint. This was usually a sloppy, free hand procedure not fully covering the entire tray...and many times ended up all over the fender apron as well.
Seen it on plenty of 70 E-Bodies....not sure if the procedure was taken past the 70 model year...the cowl black-out surely wasn't.

The reason I ask the question is that my battery tray is black but in really bad deteriorated shape from acid and etc.. I would like to think it was the original tray but it may have been replaced prior to me obtaining the car. I tried to randomly scratch through the black paint to see if maybe someone painted it black over the original body color, but could not determine anything but black.I want to replace the tray with a new one and wanted it to be the right color before I install it. Thanks to all for the input on this issue .

Yep seen that on alot of 70E's myself. The original 71B's that I had and seen had body color trays. Alot of cars got the tray spary bombed over the years.
