Hi Moparts experts,

Which one is the correct convertible top warning decal for a 70 Challenger vert?

This one or...

...or this second alternative.

Both are stated that they are correct for a 70 E-Body vert

maybe the top photo in the OP is not a licensed reproduction? It does not have the part# in the upper right corner...

I'm surprised a correct original label would have such an obvious error ("it's lowest position" should be "its").

It is not an error. The word "it" is being referenced as a singular noun to express ownership. In that context, using the apostrophe is actually correct.

i'm wondering why neither one has the p.n. reproduced onto it?

Re: E-Body convertible rear glass caution decal - 12/16/10 04:23 AM

Has anyone ever seen this on a convertible e-body?
I have seen this on two originals convertible ebodies cars that are unttouched. I would like to know if anyone else out there has documented evidence of this decal.

Thanks Ken

Perhaps the rules of English have changed since I was in school 30 years ago?
I'm sorry Dave, but I couldn't resist forwarding your reply to both my father and my mother for entertainment, both of them made their livings as editors (my 80 year old dad still does some editing and the common mistake of using "it's" as a possessive is one of his biggest pet peeves).
"It's" is a contraction of "it is".
Here's a little primer so everyone can be more edumacated:

At least I am doing something to make people chuckle these days! (Even if it is AT me. ) It certainly won't be the last time I display the fact that I slept through many of my English courses! I understand why they did it but the word "it" should not have been considered a singular noun. Keep in mind that the mistake needs to be "preserved" when reproductions are manufactured. Thanks for the update Brad.

I'm just trying to get back in their good graces, so that they might consider putting me back in their will!
So I just went out in my 40 degree garage and crawled around in my Challenger convertible and the only decal I found is this one, I'm guessing it's (notice my correct English!)not correct and now it's(once again!) my turn to get edumacated?

The only original one I have seen posted is from Ola. I do not believe that the first two pictures are original examples. Most reproduction decals have things that are incorrect when it comes to their size and/or appearance. That is the main reason that we threw our hat into the (Chrysler) ring and started manufacturing these types of replacement products. Also notice the wrong size of the corner rounds and the incorrect fonts. The horizontal and vertical kerning is completely different. It also does not read the same in the red print for the last two lines! You will find that most (but not every) instructional label from Chrysler used a part number on the face of the decal.

Hi Brad,
Make sure you tell your Parents that I said "Merry Christmas" and keep up the good work! They just taught me NEVER to violate one of their "pet peeves" EVER again.

I am pretty sure that the decal you posted is also a reproduction. Notice how the "M's", "N's" and "W's" are bolder looking than the rest of the text. That is usually a tell tale sign that it was printed in an offset manner and the ink was set too heavy. If you guys can come up with original examples and provide correct dimensions, I will be happy to reproduce them correctly. Ola is going to provide the size for the one he posted earlier today. I have also been in contact with Ken H concerning some of these decals. (Thanks Ken!) Someone had sent me a version that I know was not original and I did not want to make an incorrect copy from an incorrect copy. Keep me posted!

Here is another original decal. A little weathered, but you get the idea.

Ken, I do not recall seening this particular decal on any E-Body convertible.
It appears that the yellow decal was not cut properly. I also think that an original decal would not have been trimmed. Most likely it would have been a complete rectangle decal.
I also noticed that the white decal seems to be a replacement. The original adheasive is visable.

I will search my extensive photo library of the E-Body Convertible Registry. Not too many pictures of the top down without a boot though.

I have seen many original uncovered header panels in the last 20 years. A lot of the decals were missing. The adheasive remained from the white instructional decal, but I have no evidence of the yellow decal adheasive remains. I will let you know if I find any pictures.

Ola

Very true Ola! But usually when I learn something here, it ends up costing me $$$, because I learned that something on one of my cars is incorrect and I'll have to track down the right part for it. I don't know how much more I can afford to know!
I take it that decal I posted the picture of that's on my car is not correct?
BTW sorry to go off topic, but have any of the JH27N0B Challengers that were built with manual tranny's surfaced? Last time I saw your list a few years ago, none were known. My dream car!

I wanted to let everyone know how helpful Ola has been with having this decal reproduced. He emailed perfect pictures to document the correct size. This had been a missing piece of the puzzle for being able to correctly manufacture them. A HUGE "Thank You" to Ola for his detailed pictures and all of his assistance!!

Hi Ken,
Notice how the glue pattern does not match the corner round radius of the decal that was placed over the original spot. The original had an 1/8th inch corner round and the one in your picture looks to have a 1/4" corner round.

Ola, "tusen tack" and Dave let us know when you have those decals available.
I am hopefully soon in the final stages of the Challenger's semi-resto and bringing the vert back on the road again. Anyhow before that day I will also need to renew almost all those small decals on it.

Dave, I'll be in touch with you soon about the decals
