71-71 Plymouth B bodies, front bumper rubber strip????

I've searched every Roadrunner picture thread I can find, and I have a question. I didn't see any with that rubber strip thats mounted on the front bumper. Whats the deal with that rubber strip????

It is a rare piece of rubber Mopar put on the front bumper. Not sure if it was an option or not

Mine has it...........thats why I was curious. Haven't seen any others

Thats the rubber bumper Barry. The rubber strip is the M81 front bumper guard for 71/2. Rear guard looked about the same.

I've got a rear 72 bumper that a guy give me for the brackets and stuff that has bumper guards on it, but they encircle the taillight openings.
I'd still like more info on the front piece.....and how rare/common it is.

Kinda rare I guess. Out of about 30 71/2 Plymouths that I've owned, had one with the front guard.
The 72 rear guard was abit more common. Had 4 of them and a few spare bumpers.

i have a 72 road runner that had the front and rear guards added on before the original owner purchased it new.
i talked with the original owners son. he showed me a pic of the car when they picked it up new. it had the guards on it but they aren't listed on the fender tag or build sheet. another interesting thing was when i restified it it had new fenders, door skins, and lots of bondo in it but the owner said it was never crashed when they owned it. they bought it it had 20 miles on it.
