My '68 rr, it's a "G" St Louis built car......now let's all think; are there any options that may use any of those numbers as codes or are they an inspector's code?

Re: Numbers behind rear seat - 10/06/10 03:21 AM

a few other members posted similar photos and I think they were "G" plant cars too. I saved the posted photos but can't find them at the moment.

Could the "V" possibly stand for the vynil top?

Re: Numbers behind rear seat - 10/06/10 04:22 PM

My 71 Challenger R/T has a large "5" behind the seat.

I assumed it was there to match up the rear valence as I recently purchased a rear valence that had number written on the inside on the same way.

I wonder if it is:

Roof Paint * Body Paint * Upper Door Frame Paint

Does anyone have fender tag info for the above pictured cars?

My '68 rr (photo with 12 12 20) is FF1 mist green metallic with no vinyl roof (FF1 roof) and upper door paint is medium/dark green metallic. The dash is Catawba green a dark (flat/egg shell green) but not that close to the upper door green. The upper door green is close to '69 F8 green IMO. Here's my '68 rr with the 12 12 20. The SPD just FYI is April 2, 1968. I have the original fender tag BTW.

Re: Numbers behind rear seat - 10/07/10 03:09 AM

my guess they would be a vendor id
and maybe a date code of sorts
i'm sure all the body panels
were not stamped at the same place
and came from differant sources..

I wonder if the paint vats were numbered? ie,
Vat 12 contained FF4 paint.

Re: 1970 Coronet reference - 10/09/10 06:15 PM

I was thinking the same thing...
Hopefully more posts with designation and original paint colors noted will help. I plan to check our '68 g cal later and report back.

what is on the OP's fender tag.

12 = FF4 in '70 & (FF1) F "mist green metallic" in '68 (similar colors just different years)
11 = EF8

from Rileys68Plymouth 8 - 8 - 21

8 was the paint code for a "new" '67 color "brite blue metallic" & Josh's car (Rileys68Plymouth) is (QQ1) Q "electric blue metallic" (similar colors just different years)

blue interior paint on '68 b-bodies is U "frost blue metallic"
so does 21 = U later to be used for B3 (EB3) ?

Re: 1970 Coronet reference - 10/09/10 11:15 PM

Looking at the '69 "special green" RR pic above V * SP. GREEN * 11 * H

WAG info for paint line

V - vinyl top - minimal prep/paint for roof w/plastic 1/4 seams
SP. GREEN - paint the body from that VAT of special/spring/ralley/GM green
11 - paint the Upper Door Frames from VAT #11 (F8/EF8) "ivy green metallic"
H - paint an "accent stripe" in "red" - 31H was a "red accent stripe" in '68 a guess & a miss see Charger below

Anyone know the car or have fender tag info?

I have the fender tag info for one '69 RR (RM23H9G) w/99 paint H2F (white/green) int. (F8 UDF) & white top (V1W) & "accent stripe" (V7W) - this car?

Re: Numbers behind rear seat - 10/10/10 04:24 AM

* 3

there is a "SP. GREEN" RR conv in the other post with black interior & * 3

3 = TX9 (UDF)

Sounds like you guys might be on to something. Info on fender tag is TRM/P6F PNT/GG1 UBS/G .
Car also has a White vinyl top, that is what I was thinking the "V" was for .

Wow, finally there's a rhyme and reason to those numbers My rr is FF1 "mist green" roof and body and you said that would be vat 12 so that's the 12 12 so what is the 20?

Re: 1970 Coronet reference - 10/10/10 06:14 AM

I guess we missed that one:

VAT 20 in '68 is full of G "forest green metallic" for your Road Runner's UDFs.
but
VAT 14 in '68 is full of G "racing green metallic" for the OP's Coronet exterior & UDFs.

flaw in the system

I checked some '68 Coronet & Belvedere fender tags and with "green" interiors they all used G for UDF paint. MikeR can you check under the "U" of "UBS" on your RR's fender tag?

Here's an old photo taken with a flash of the upper door frame paint but it looks darker without the flash...dark forest green would seem to be the correct color term IMO.

Re: Numbers behind rear seat - 10/10/10 03:08 PM

Somewhat on topic... Markings on my Charger 500 found after plastic media blasting. There were a couple more that the camera would not capture...

Also, "NO" on the driver's side taillight housing... most, if not all, Charger 500s had either "YES" or "NO" on the housing, some even had it twice... i.e. "YES-YES". May have been related to whether the C500 was ordered with a light package requiring the switch bracket in the trunk to be relocated. This theory seems to hold true so far... but no YES/NO markings have been found on Daytonas.

Anyone find similar markings...?
