What type of paint was standard on a 1964 Fury? Thanks!

Laquer most likely. Might have been nitro cellulose laquer. I'm not sure when they stopped using that. Maybe an old timer will chime in....if they can remember that far back

Lacquer was for GM's. Enamel for that 64.

So we agree that it was enamel...or acrylic enamel? Is there a difference?

The paint on the car is an original dark brown and is quite clean. I want red and am not very particular about quality. So if I can find the same kind of paint, I can skuff the original and use it as a primer.

Would any enamel work?

I think it would be wise to use a primer/sealer regardless. Its allot of work to prep paint only to see it peal off a short while later.

Chrysler used acrylic enamel starting sometime in the early 60's,....61-62 or if I remember right.

you could check out TCPglobal for a reasonble priced paint or I hear even Summit Racing even sells paint now.
