Fender tag vs. Broadcast sheet - 08/06/10 02:50 AM

I know this has been a topic of discussion, but, I was wondering if having the original fender tag is just as good, better, or worse than having the build sheet? I bring this up because a friend is being questioned about how legit his car is. I'll just say it's a numbers matching, big block, four speed ragtop, purple and white with axle package. Broadcast sheet is gone, but original fender tag is there. Most of you know the cars I've worked with, but I've never been questioned about knowing how the car was built by not having the build sheet, and wanting prior owners. In not so many words I think the person is trying to say the car is a fake, or not real? I feel that his original fender tag and matching numbers should be enough. What do you think?

a sheet leaves no stone unturned...fender tag shows most large option groups..so sheet is better but an orig tag is still good..what are they crying about? option wise i mean... dan

If you KNOW the tag is original, do not worry about it.

If you have any reason to suspect it, post a photo here.

The general consensus the last time this topic came up (from memory) fell into two major camps;

Fender tag because it was actually secured to & part of the car.

- and-

Broadcast sheet because it had more information on it.

I have seen fakes of both, but fake fender tags are much more common.

They are questioning if the car is legit, not a fake, clone, tribute, etc. This is a 383 4-speed, 3.91 axle FC7 and white vert. Tag shows it. I know the sheet is the best, my 340 Duster has a sheet, no tag, no biggie, my 68 Charger R/T had no tag or sheet, then I got a call from the previous owner and he told me he found that "plate" I was looking for......It was like having Christmas five times in one day!! My car is legitimized now!! The Hemi-Cuda had a re-pop tag, but had build sheet, the Hemi Challenger had two sheets, but re-pop tags. This car has the tag, numbers stamped from the top down at the top right corner. I will post pics of the tag this weekend.

would be that the broadcast sheet is better to have as you can have a fender tag made from it, you can't do it the other way around.

But I wouldn't turn away a #'s matching car with a fender tag but no broadcast sheet if it was a car I really wanted.

If you do the research you can pretty much tell what a car came with as far as parts and part numbers that are found on the broadcast sheet even if the car isn't 100% stock/unmolested, in fact, you can figure out most of the part numbers without even having the engine or tranny for the car! Most "experts" are concerned with having the right part number starter, alternator, etc, etc, and already know what should be on a "correct" car. If most of the basic parts are still on the car, hood, dash, floor pans/firewall, you can pretty much figure it all out. A fender tag will point out the major options that came on the car and is more important because 99% of the population looks at a fender for the major options a car came with while that same 99% have no idea how to read a broadcast sheet. But really, does it matter what some "expert" thinks of YOUR car with or without a BS or fender tag??? I mean as long as you enjioy it, who cares? Just my

LOTS of mopars left the factory without BS sheets (unfortunatly). All the LA built cars I've aquired did not have them.
That said, most any mopar buyer EXPECTS there to be a tag, a few will demand it all (especially on the big buck cars).
I believe the tag to be more important. And the better the options the more important it all is.

My Lynch road 6pack Bee is complete with original paint. The tag only shows the big options. With out my BS I could not prove all the other options. Tinted glass (all),factory floor mats,AM FM radio, stripe etc. My

is BS is the most important.

I'd say the sheet also, but keep in mind this is just a 383 car so as long as it's done right and the quality is there a sheet or a tag shouldn't really affect the value too much... nicely resto-modded 318 cars are fetching more money than numbers matching 383's are right now... If it was a real hemi or six pack car then those items are very important.
