Engine painting with spray gun

I am tired of the peeling rattle can paint , so the engine is out and getting cleaned and prepped for a re-paint. I have heard that automotive paint will hold up better. The color will be Hemi orange. What is the best type to use, how mutch will I need? Also please post any pics., tips, tricks, and other supplies used. Paint codes would be handy also.

i did it to corvette motor and trans on vette i sold looked wicked shiney. 1.4 tip gun,air drill wire wheeled/hand sanded it like crazy, shot epoxy on it first good light coat to cover all bare metal and old paint, few coats of dupont base coat them cleared with 7600 clear. many thin fine coats is what you want. looked like car paint job when i was done. everyone said car clear would yellow under heat,or car base would peel off, looked mint after many beat downs and long heat cycles

I do all my engines including customer engines with auto paint and clearcoat. For Race Hemi orange, the color actually cross-references to GM Omaha Orange. Don't laugh, it's actually true. Anyhow, A pint of base and a pint of clear can do the whole job and still leave a little bit leftover in many cases. I have tried Dupont in the past, but always had trouble with it. I stick to Martin-Senour Crossfire products or Limco, as I have found by trial and error that many of their hardeners and their thinners will work with each other. As always, the biggest priority is the prep. Clean it good and make sure you mask everything real good so as not to have a disaster with the overspray. Another thing I do is use less hardener than suggested in order to let the clearcoat flow out and fill nice. It still cures good and hard, just takes a little longer but its well worth it. Just my
