True I just asked this question not to long ago and it turns out they were not blacked out, only t/a's. Mines incorrect, but I'll leave it that way as I like it better. SE's has the paint rear panel piece.

Thanks guys but every picture of a 70 RT challenger in every book I have shows the black taillight panel. So are all those cars painted incorrectly???? Just want to be sure.
Thanks again

I'm not sure what book you're looking at. I've owned 20 of them dating back to 1978, some with original paint and as stated above, body color for everything except T/As (and the se's had the cover piece).

Most 1970 R/Ts came as standard with the painted Bee stripe anyway and that probably does not work too well with a blacked out taillight panel as well.

You could get either the bumblebee or the longitudinal stripe at no cost on R/Ts and A66 cars. On the R/T the longitudinal stripe was standard which is why the stripe delete is V68. On the 340 cars it was the bumble bee stripe that was standard. Stripe delete for those cars is coded V98.

The A66 cars could only get the longitudinal stripe late in the model year.

That's what I meant. You needed a stripe delete code to not have a stripe fitted. Which is why so many R/Ts came with one or other of the stripes. If a tail blackout was standard it wouldn't work with the 1000s of R/Ts with the Bee stripe so you would need a delete code for that too and of course there isn't one.
