Anyone Reproducing 1957 Dodge Station Wagon Tail Lamps? - 07/08/09 02:32 AM

I know it's a long shot but I don't follow the 50's cars that much and a friend here in town is looking for some. He'd prefer new reproductions or NOS but he'll take anything. his entire assemblies are junk. I tried the www.forwardlook.net but no replies yet. Anyone here have a clue on these?

Thanks!

What model of wagon?
If you can dig up a part #, that would be good too.

If he's willing to pay for NOS, then he may want to look into simply making his own. Simply repair the current parts, make a silicone mold, then cast the lenses with colored material designed for the project, and cast the metal parts out of whatever metals he can melt and plate. It's not as difficult as it sounds, and there is a member here who can direct you to the proper products to use (John, you reading this? ).

Also, the HUGE Old Car's swap meet in Iola, WI is this coming week-end. If those parts aren't there, they aren't anywhere! See if you can have a local member who is going look for them for you!

Scott, a friend of mine has a boatload of nos parts for the 50's cars , probably has hundreds of tail light lenses alone.

I'll ask him this weekend as he riding shotgun to Carlisle with me and report back on monday or tuesday

Thanks everyone,

I don't think hes up for manufacturing his own (yes I'm very familiar with the methods) pretty much every other option will be explored before he goes there, plus he doesn't have any intact lenses as mold shapes.

Bill, that would be great. I don't know the model (haven't seen the car yet) but he said It's a 57 Dodge with two large bullet shaped lenses and one small one, all mounted on a single taillight bezel insert, these are a 57 station wagon only style tail lamp assembly design.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, they are reproduced. On ebay all the time, or used to be, not expensive at all, and NOS ones usually don't get a huge price.

Is he buying a 57 Wagon? If they're the same as the non-wagons, and they look very similar, I probably might have some. PM me.

No, the pic I posted was one I found online, he already owns his and his are the same as pictured above. The lenses themselves may be the same as other models but the bezels are definately wagon only design (and of course same vintage Swepside trucks). If you have some just pm me some prices and conditions and I'll forward them to him, he needs bezels as well, basically the entire assemblies, his are cracked and pitted badly.

I looked at a DeSoto wagon years ago for which someone had cobbled together tail-light lenses using red plastic drinking cups.

Don't know if anyone has considered him, but George Laurie in Australia reproduces a lot of vintage Mopar lenses. Don't know his current state of affairs, and don't see this particular model in his list, but maybe...
His address is PO Box 114, Tewantin, Queensland, 4565 Australia.
E-mail is georgelaurie@bigpond.com
