72 Roadrunner Production

Is there any info out there that would tell how many 72 RR's were built with certain options?

How many 400-4, 4spd, air grabber cars built?

You'd probably want to ask Butterscotch71 (aka Eric). He collects info for 71-74 Plymouth B's. I doubt you'll find an option breakdown, but he could probably tell you how many 400-4, 4 speeds were built. I just sold an EV2 72 RR, 400-4, auto, non-air grabber. You can find out how many 400 4-speed cars were built, or how many AG cars were built, but not the combination of the two.

Anyone who tries to give you a number with a combination of such is giving you something that's statistically incorrect. There is no way to estimate it.

I may have numbers at home, but I am a little iffy on 1972 cars.

Per the Dodge & Plymouth Muscle Car "Red Book" 6831 Roadrunners were produced including the GTX. 2168 came with the 340 and 672 with the 440. That leaves 3991 with the 400 engine. Other than that it is impossible to narrow multiple options breakdowns.

I have Govier's production book and for 1972 Road Runners, the breakdown is the following:

7628 - Total Production

6861 - US Production
767 - Export Production
----
7628

2360 - 340
3828 - 400
672 - 440
1 - 440-6
----
6861 - US Production

I don't have a breakdown by engine for the export production of 767 but for the US, the book lists these amounts:

192 - 340/3-speed
329 - 340/4-speed
1839 - 340/automatic
----
2360 - total 340 production

1433 - 400/3-speed
906 - 400/4-speed
1489 - 400/automatic
----
3828 - total 400 production

219 - 440/4-speed
453 - 440/automatic
----
672 - total 440 production

1 - total 440-6 production

Hope this helps you out. Ultimately, without the breakdown by engine for the export total, the statistics won't be 100% correct. But at least this gives you an idea of the overall breakdown.

As mentioned previously, there is no breakdown by option codes, i.e. Air Grabber, and the engine/transmission combination. At least, not that I know of but if someone has more to offer?

Hi,

I would try contacting the Chrysler Historical office and ask what they have available for 1972 production breakdowns. I have seen lists of options by percentage, i.e. 12% of the cars had this option, for other years but not for 1972.

Also, it might be worth contacting member Alaskan_TA. He has a website with detailed information and he may have this.

He'll be wasting his time with Chrysler Historical. Best bet is to buy a production figure report from Galen Govier.
