7.75x14" blue streak repro tires choices?

7.75x14" blue streak repro tires choices? - 12/20/23 09:16 PM

What are people using for 7.75x14" Blue Streak (blue sidewall) replacement tires?

I see they offer 6.75 Blue Streaks with blue side wall and raised white letters (GT 350 tire). But cant find 7.75x14" blue side wall only's.

Is there something that is close?

Yea. That’s what I’m seeing. Bummer.

I was considering a blackwall or whitewall 7.75x14 Goodyear. Then having the blue line added. There used to be a local dude that did this.

But I can’t even frind 7.75x14” any Goodyears.

You can do it too, just head over to the local hobby or craft store and pick up an assortment of blue permanent markers. You'll be amazed at the results. I had a Goodyear white (line) with the same width sidewall "line" as a red line and made it into a perfect spare red line tire for the '68 RR. Find a bad white wall junk tire to practice on to get the color right and save lots and lots of $$$$. This used to be a white-line tire.

Nice !!

Problem is, I can't find a 7.75x14 Goodyear bias ply to start with. And then to add a blue line to.

I would consider something wider than 7.75 in a Goodyear. But must be 14"

Just weird detail shots on this phone.

68k miles. 1981 Hot Rod “Supercar Shootout” article said 60K miles.

The red-ish hue you see in the fender well is factory primer. Not rust

Working on fine cleaning the little corners and such. Q-tip, small soft bristle, ultra low aggressive stuff.

Nobu’s was a well known Hollywood high performance tuning place.

Across the street from the previous owners and my dad’s work in the 60’s and early 70’s.

Survivor Hemi car.

Original paint and interior. Front bumper rechromed. Rest of original brightwork is extremely nice. SoCal car. Always garaged and extremely well cared for.

Might recognize it from print back in the day. This book was published in 1989

Yes ZZ1 gold

Same owner since 1969; past NHOA President. That owner knew car since new after meeting son of owner and watching it street race a 427 4spd Impala… Hemi won.

Hot Rod Sept 1981 well known article: Supercar Showdown

Says 60k mi in 1981. Now 68k mi

When this car hits the streets the summer of 2024 . it will be on 15x7 Keystone Classics

Jennings did my brother’s 70 Mach I once.

Figuring Nobu’s location in Hollywood, I bet they had A-list celeb customer list with just an impressive car list.

I found a thread on a 375 horse Camaro sold by original owner in West Hollywood with a Nobu’s sticker on it: https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1307518

And this article too: https://inthegaragemedia.com/nobu-oshiro-built-old-school-1968-chevy-camaro-rs/

Very cool car!

Are those Goodyear F-70 redlines? Can they be had in blue line? I don’t think dying the red blue would work.

Wonder if Kelsey would make a set with blue instead of red?

IMO the closest/practical available option would be the 1968-'69 F70-14 Goodyear SPEEDWAY it is available in "white streak" (& some additional blue paint/dye/marker work)

Thank you.

Yea, I think this car is worthy of bias ply’s. That looks like my best bet so far.

Anyone know of a really good white to blue sidewall dye/process ?

If I went radials, I’d run 15” with my Spyder Rims (still need ctr caps)

This car has a lot of red primer showing on the underside.

Does this look like it was overspray from the red exterior primer?

Were these cars dipped in red vs grey/black primer?

The rear quarter red shows because the factory didnt get the ZZ1 gold paint coverage down there

My 2 cents.

I would not use the f70 series tires just because it's a Goodyear.

The profile of the tire is completely wrong and instantly identifiable they are wrong.

I would go with the repop BF tires in the correct size. Sidewall color and profile of the tire

I would say the odds are pretty good for that.

AFAIK, there have only been 2 repops made of the round element. With the primary difference was the inner screen( just dont remember said differences )

What process is used in "non agressive cleaning"
Simple green and soft brush?
Whatever you are doing seems to work well.

The only undercarriage thing I’ve cleaned is the very rear of leaf spring. I did that with water and old toothbrush. Then diluted simple green. Then rinse with water and bat down with terry cloth. The inspection marks tend to show better when still wet.

On the stainless and chrome, I’m using Wenol on soft paper towel or microfiber cloth with Q-tips in crevices. I’ve only done the drivers front hubcap, wheel well trim then drivers side tailight and bumper

Those front wheel wells are completely untouched !

Interior untouched !

Thank you. I've used the soft brush and water/simple green. Tried to stay away from the super aggressive stuff. I'm familiar with the wenol as when starting out he's have a booth at local nor cal shows.
It looks to work well.

Yes. We had them a Spring/Fall Flings years ago. And he'd do the Pomona and Long Beach swap meets.

I believe SemiChrome product works similar.

Thank you for posting pictures of the car, Can you continue to post details on this car or start a thread in the member build section? I also have a 66 hemi coronet and I am interested in documenting the details. A lot of the suspension components on my 66 were black. leaf springs, lower control arms, idler arm, pitman arm. I would also like to see the wheels and details of the stampings and if you remove the tires, details inside the band of manufacture. Really any details that can be documented the better.
Pete was very much about documenting hemi cars, the NHOA vin list that was published back in 1990 was a brain child of his. Today myself and a close friend with help from him and other try to continue that work. Awesome car!

Thank you for the kind words.

I remember going to Pete’s house once in 1988 and looking at trailer cache of parts he got from back east. I carried NOS alum 990 heads onto a self and he pointed out an extra 68 S/S A-body disk setup in the pile. Crazy stuff.

I plan on making a list of date codes and complication of markings. We are just caretakers of these cars.

The lower control arms are also black on this car. I thought maybe done when a bushing change took place. Now keeping a little open mind in that.

i agree the linkage is hooked up, but the camera angle could make it look like it wasn't.

I think this rubber access cover looks replaced with maybe someone from a later car.

What does the 1966 rubber cover here look like? Anyone with a picture of an original one

Re: 7.75x14" blue streak repro tires choices? - 01/05/24 07:11 PM

Looks like a forward cover - the rearward ones are larger.
Those little holes are for the cover clips.

EDIT: My 1st sentence is wrong wrong wrong - rt side is the smaller one, left side is the larger one.
Sorry for the brain fart.

Thats not anything like a B body mastic cover I have

The front ones are a metal cover

Re: 7.75x14" blue streak repro tires choices? - 01/05/24 09:31 PM

Yes, That rear one looks like there was a different cover at one time that was attached to the little holes.

But does anyone have a picture of that rear one? So I know what to look for?

In the front, I have the traditional B/E-body black painted oval-ish metal cover held by two screws. That's all that goes up there, right?

Only thing I have are a set of the repops. I can pull out and grab a picture if you want
And I have no idea how accurate they are to al year B body cars

I bought them last year and still haven't put them on.

But yes, only thing in the forward end are the metal ones held with 2 screws

edit, they look like these

Yup, I was wrong and have edited my post.
Don't know what I was thinking, sorry.
Smaller one is right side, larger is left, on my '68 & '69, which I think are the same as '66-'67 in that regard.
Neither is perfectly rectangular like the one somebody attached to that car.

Thanks,

So my front is good. Just has a very well defined line where the undercoating was masked.

I keep seeing red oxide primer on the side facing surfaces on the undercarriage. Like when they put the red primer down before paint, it blow over into the wheel well, rocker pinch weld, etc.

At first it looks like the red is over the grey dip. Which I would assume. But would like more proof.

Blacked dipped lower control arms and black centerlink, pitman, and idler. Mattmopars and two other people also have this with their 66's.

My front sway bar is also black with black sway bar brackets. I think this was dipped as an assembly with the bushings!

Tri Castle nuts on Idler and Tie Rod end still.

Original paint motor on bottom here?

Drivers side markings on front eyelet of leaf spring

Looks like medium or pastel green on inside and white on outer side.

Anyone else find this on 66 Hemi Auto's?

Isn't there a list of leaf spring markings out there?

Any idea if there is a Gasket under the hood ornament?

Pulled the gas sender to check the tank and fuel condition.

Looks real good. Sucked the old gas out. Then blew out the body line.

If you have an opportunity please take some pictures of the original wheels. The stamping around the valve stem , area around the lug bolt holes, and stamping/ manufacturer inside the hoop if you pull the tires.
Thank you, Matt

Just a beautiful Satellite! I had a large size poster of a collage of Hemi Mopar's
when I was in high school back in the late 70's- early 80's. This (Pete Haldiman) Satellite was one of the cars
in that poster! Along with Marvin Hughes' '64 Hemi Dodge, and a handful of other Hemi cars.
I also am sure I had a copy of that Car Craft magazine too, with the SuperCar Shootout.
Wish I still had them. Good luck with that Plymouth! up

Actually that's a gold Hemi Bel II is a convertible (I believe Hughes’)

Pete’s car was the 69 Hemi 500 with dealer vinyl top. Sold to C500's dad. And Radke's Hemi Daytona replaced it (now Lembeck's in F6)

The poster was from Automobile Quarterly. AQ used pictures of Pete’s 500 for an article on Wing Cars.

I bought this poster never used about 5 or so years ago at a Spring Fling. From my garage wall right now:

Yup, that's the poster! My memory is fuzzy, sorry, I just remembered a gold Plymouth
in that poster, didn't remember it being a convertible...it been over forty years, since I last
saw it. wink Regardless, you have a gorgeous car, I hope you get many years of happiness with it. up

Says Carl Dwiggins on the silver/red 66 Hemi Satellite. Same owner for the dark blue/black 68 Hemi RR under it.

I can offer this pic of a set of original seals from a 68 4 door v-8 coronet.
I cannot recall if there was anything passing through the slotted hole on the smaller piece.

Just brake clean and brass wire brushes. Lightly go over with steel wire brushes as last resort. And repetition.

Wenol polish on the brass. And some wenol on stains in corners with a Q-tip and/or stiff plastic brush.

I did notice the special carb nuts. They have a slightly raised then machined flat surface to the ends.

Reused the bolts that were there. Seemed factory but looked like three different brands/stamps

I used Justice Brothers Engine Degreaser. Seemed to work better than brake clean or concentrated simple green. It was best when surface dry between applications/follow-ups. I used an air nozzle to dry. Then scrub. Then spray with hand spray bottle with water set to stream. The agitated greas-grime and degreaser would shoot off surface when the shot of water stream hit it. Then slide and dip off to a pan underneath.

Used dishwasher brush, small stiff bristle shop brush, engine cleaner bottle brushes.

Thinking about buying a group 27 repro battery.

What is the difference between early 65-68? red top and later 69-72? battery.

I have a late one with green tops I’m debating gutting and putting a small mini battery inside

They sell red tops separate ?

This is what I have. It’s got a 29…. Part number

My gut feeling is cap color has something to do with cold cranking amps maybe. or manufacturer year,,,,or both

I went with red caps
