'68/'69 B-body assembly plant differences LA/LR/STL? - 07/13/23 01:26 PM
What have you found or noticed that is done differently to '68/'69 B-bodies from the three different assembly plants Los Angeles, Lynch Road and St. Louis. Reason for asking is my '68 RR was a St. Louis assembly plant car, my '69 A12 RR is, of course, a Lynch Road assembly plant car and I had them both before I got the '69 LA assembly plant built GTX. The '69 LA GTX was in El Paso at a friends dealership before I went down to bring it back and this is where a little fear or confusion started. The car was supposed to be all original with nearly 90k on the odometer and original sheet metal and paint and when I asked my friend to send me a photo of the radiator support numbers he and a body shop guy couldn't find it ??? The trunk drip rail number was there in the usual LR and STL placement but NO RAD SUPPORT number to be found. Photos lead to more confusion as the usual LR, STL placement of the coolant info label was more to the right or center of the radiator support? A little disappointment but I figured I would take a closer look on the back, driver's side of the radiator support when I got there to pick it up. Couldn't find there and couldn't find it when I got it home . It bugged me about the placement of the coolant info decal and then I found it and why the decal was moved towards the right/center. The LA assembly radiator support (VIN) number is on the driver's side TOP and not on the rear of the radiator support like the LR cars. And the '68 RR radiator support number is not the last of the VIN in '68 but the number on the fender tag in the lower right or the order number not the VIN. Three differences on the radiator support numbers but pretty sure the order number was used by all in 1968. Found a few other differences and have a few questions like did the LA plant spray the bottom sides black or partially black or not. Which side of the trunk lid is your LA assembly plant jack instruction decal on and any other things you found to be different between plants. Of course the Lynch Road fender tags are different or lack info that the LA and STL cars have like options as in radio, etc., that are not on the LR tags. What have you found or noticed?
