Magnesium Hemi crossrams - 07/05/23 02:24 AM

I know this is a tough question but, the mag hemi crossrams don't have a date code on them like the aluminum ones do. Is there a way to tell which ones would be proper on a 65 and which ones would have been made for a 68? Of course they sold these over-the-counter for a long time also. The photos are of 2 different intakes. The castings tags are slightly different. There are also 2 tags each on the side and I sent a photo of the best one. I know it's a tough question but I thought i'd ask. Thanks.

No expert here, but the first street hemi manifolds had WBAC casting. 66-67 model year. They also had MLT tag, but I don't know how you make any sense out of it. I have 3 manifolds (street hemi) with MLT P10NA; 6P063P; 18CA.

Interested to hear some answers.

What difference does it really make if the magnesium manifold was cast in 1965 or 1968?
Magnesium can't talk.
There is no way to tell.
I owned this magnesium intake manifold and carbs, for years before i sold it off.
You are correct, no casting dates on it.

Just a SWAG, the cast info is more likely the core info, and core level along with the foundry ID and of course the part number.

The numbers stamped in the pad are likely the machined date.

Something as small as a production run like this manifold probably used batches of cast manifolds stored, then when machined had the date of machining as the control.

You will have to look at a few manifolds to see if there is a pattern in the stamping numbers.

It doesn't really matter to me. I just thought if anyone was still alive with that info now would be the time to get it.
