73-74 B-Body rear sway bar bushings - 07/20/22 01:36 AM

Does anyone know where one might obtain Rear Sway bar bushings for a 73-4 body? Looking for the ones that mount the bar to the frame not the links. Parts manual shows them coming with the bar hence no part number. I have tried NAPA and Rock Auto on line and there is no listing for anything to do with a Rear bar. Any help would be Great! Thank You!!

Do you still have a old one? Many times they have a part number on them.

Pretty sure it is 3402492. None around that I see. It should look like this. Hard to believe nobody makes them. Looks like it could be made out of a piece of thick rubber.

For some reason I thought Rare Parts out of Stockton Ca had those, but I do not see them listed.

You could reach out Firm Feel and see if their bushing/mounts will work with your bar.

My 78 book for B body lists 3402492 but maybe the 3722992 supersede? Don`t know for sure. I have seen NOS rear sway bars before and they had the bushings on them. I checked Brads NOS site and he shows 3722992 $29.50 use 1731341 open the hole up. ??????????????????

Well the search continues. Found a few aftermarket ones that are close in dimensions but no longer available. The 3722992 has a much smaller bar but could be opened up if that is the last choice. The 3402492 which I “believe” to be correct is non existent. Hard to believe that a wear item can not be found. Actually any rear sway bar components seem scarce. Anyway for those 73 and up b-body people I just thought I would share. If anyone has any other input please let us know.

Mcmaster Carr sells 1" thick neoprene sheets with different hardness fairly reasonable. Maybe some could be made from that. Just an idea.

Have you tried finding them in Poly?

Re: 73-74 B-Body rear sway bar bushings - 08/25/22 04:02 PM

i have bought poly bushings of all kinds at swap meets, cheap. they usually are in the "everything" boxes.
i then spin them down on the lathe or mill for whatever project i'm working on.
i realize not every guy has a lathe or mill in his shop, or has a buddy with one, but sometimes a guy has to look at something and think what it could be turned into.
i suffer greatly from that syndrome. that's why there is so much "excess" material on the shelves. biggrin

i have done that on occasion, but be forewarned.
it can be quite a challenge to hold the bushing correctly, so it will come out how you want it to.
rubber wants to expand or compress, depending on how you are holding it in the lathe chuck or collett, and you need the right spindle feed [higher than you would think to get a nice cut] and cutter to do the job.
plus, it will usually smoke and stink some, while you are doing it. biggrin

drill out the welds of the u shape bracket to release it from the flat, buy the appropriate shaped/hole size bushing from energy suspension.

the u bracket can be bolted on to the plate using welded in bolts, i like using a carriage bolt with the rounded head - grind the head to flat.
