71 SSP quarter replacement question

I am replacing both quarters, the filler panel under the window, and both trunk gutters.

I am having a lot of difficulty with the gaps around the trunk.

For people who are familiar with that Would it be better to weld the filler and trunk gutters in first?

Or should I weld the trunk gutters to the quarters first.

Anybody got any advice? Thanks.

i am a certified autobody tech.
when i install new sheetmetal i use vice grips and screws to hold the panel in palace. once i get EVERYTHING to fit properly i start welding.
my advice is DON'T WELD ANYTHING until ALL of the panels fit properly.

Been doing this work at the same shop now for 27 years. I second the above suggestions. I use self drilling 1/4 headed bolts/screws and vice grips. Mock EVERYTHING up so you can shut doors.trunk lids. Even go as far as mocking up any extensions and lights. The more you can pre assemble the better. That way you can make any adjustments to how things are fit before welding. I buy estimate paint markers to mark any spots for additional alignments and areas that I don't want to punch holes for spot welding. The markers will clean off with some thinner once all is said and done. Take it all back apart. Then grind any joints down to bare metal with a rolac grinding disk. Then apply weld thru primers and punch any spot weld holes where needed. Reassemble using the last screw holes so that I know everything is back where it needs to be. Recheck doors,deck lids and those things. Then start plug welding.
