Vinyl Dye?

Vinyl Dye? - 06/09/22 01:27 AM

Doing a color change on my 1969 Barracuda fastback, interior will be going from dark green metallic to blue metallic.

I was going to order a complete new interior, but it appears these parts won’t be available for possibly up to two years!

I guess my only option right now is vinyl dye, Anyone have brand preferences or advice?

X2! Also get the prep/cleaner before applying it.

I've used SEM paints quite a bit and they are really nice. I'm not sure if they offer the correct blue though. Herb's Parts has a line of interior paints. I've used their 68 pearl white and it's really nice. They might have the correct shade of blue you need. You can still use SEM paint as a base coat for the Herb's paint if you need to. I sprayed some bucket seat hinge covers with SEM white and then top coated them with the Pearl White.

Make sure you clean clean clean and use SEM Adhesion Promotor on any plastics.

Local SEM distributor color matches bulk product same as regular paint. They can put it into spray cans or sell it by the pint or quart.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like SEM is the unanimous choice!

I use SEM products a lot. Also look at the OER interior colors sold by Classic Industries. They have original 68-73 era Mopar interior colors. I have used them a lot too, and had equal results.
Like anything, prep is important. On the plastic pieces use an adhesion promoter. The soft pieces like vinyl seats, armrests and visors re color very well.

I dyed a black dash pad red in my 67 Barracuda almost 40 years ago , and it is still beautiful ! I used all ditzier prep material and I am not sure if the dye was Ditzler or Sem at that time , but I have used SEM on other things in more recent times . If you do proper prep , the dye will work well ! Kool
