What date code for alt and starter 69 GTX?

What date code for alt and starter 69 GTX? - 02/15/22 04:30 AM

This is the first car I’ve had where I find myself caring about such things. The parts like manifolds and carb and distributor are all the correct part numbers. The intake for my Dec 5th SPD Lynch Rd car says 11/27/68 on it. I figure the starters and alternators were a bit before that? What is acceptable and where on them do I look for date codes? The alt has a reman sticker right on the top so I assume it will be incorrect.

Once you start down the OEM date code path, you tend to want more and more....

Electrical components are usually dated by week/year. So a 12 9 (starter barrel) or 12 69 (alternator stamp pad) code is the 12th week of 1969. Inventory management in 1969 was nothing like it is today. A window of 6 to 2 weeks prior to production date is considered acceptable for the parts you are looking for.

Went through same drill with daughter's 69 Charger. Alternator was an incorrect squareback replacement. So started searching for correct part# alternator dated about 4wks ahead of build date. Also advertised here in WTB. Fortunately moparts member had non-working one with correct part# and date codes. Rebuilt using NOS stator and internals from a parts store remanufactured unit.

I don’t know, I’ve never cared about such things before this car. Don’t even know where to look for a k frame date code.

Your SPD of 11/27/69 is calendar day 332
Calendar day by number 1968 link

Your K-frame date will usually (but not always) be the closest day to your SPD that has been found on other Lynch Road assembled car's SPD's. As stated "usually" but NOT always. Would just be interesting to see what your K-frame stamped date is. It's located on the front of the K-frame (see photo with text) and just a guess it might be 328 8 1 or day of the year 328- Nov. 23, "8" =1968 and "1" = first shift. And that's a WAG (wild @$$ guess) grin

119 9 1 in the second photo = April 29, 1969 Shift 1

139 9 1 = May 19, 1969 Shift 1

Was under there today and looked at the k. Couldn’t see any stampings. Will try and clean it and see if there are any. It’s really not dirty though.

Definitely an early one as it has no holes drilled for the 70 sway. Not even predrilled.
