Differences in 9" 68 Dodge caps - 01/06/22 01:36 PM

I see two different heights on the 9" 68 Charger Bee hubcaps. They differ by about a 1/4 inch. What determined the difference on cars? 14 vs 15 inch? Hemi vs all? Different suppliers? Thanks all.

I know there is a height difference on the 1969 and up dog dish caps too. I have 5 stainless ones here and one day had them all on the table together and noticed one wasn't as tall as the rest. On a car nobody would notice unless you showed them. Likely came from different vendors I guess?

Almost all the ones I see around are the taller type, fwiw.

Hmmm. I've never measured their heights, but I'd suppose it was either different vendors or a cost-saving measure (less material = lower bid).
FWIW, I've put many of the 9" Plymouth hubcaps from 14" wheels on 15" wheels (Ramcharger, etc) with no problems.

On mine, the Dodge red circle style, it's just the 3/4" or so high outermost perimeter that is not as tall. The rest of the hubcap shape is all the same, and it mounts on the wheels fine as well. I had all these caps for awhile before I even noticed the short one.

It is hard to see in pics just see different caps used on similar cars. Here is a pic I borrowed from the classifieds at forebodiies only so not my picture but shows difference well.

Definitely shorter in the center part. Likely a supplier difference with two different stamping dies out there I'd guess.
