70 V-code Roadrunner air cleaner decal

70 V-code Roadrunner air cleaner decal - 06/07/21 08:13 PM

I have had my 70 Six Pack Roadrunner since May of 1975.
When I got the car it had the '69 Coyote Duster decal, as shown in attachment, on the air cleaner lid.
The lid is a standard Six Pack lid, not the 69 A12 lid with the extra lip, so it wasn't just taken off a 69 car.
So, either it came that way from the factory, or someone removed the original decal and put on the 69 decal.

Has anyone ever seen this decal on a 1970 Six Pack car?
If there are other instances, I will use this decal. If it seems I am the only person in the world with this decal on a 70, I'll have to assume that it was a day 2 change and use the checkered flag decal.

My early-build 71 Challenger came with a bunch of 1970 production parts (console, bucket seat backs, spoiler, etc). Is your car an early build? Anything is possible.

It's a Dec. 9 1969 build. Not all that early. Although it did have an aluminum intake.

What does the underside of the lid look like?

Lid on a six pack is NOT the same lid as hemi / single four barrel lid

Yes, they are different. I only showed the Hemi air cleaner because it had the decal on it.
I definitley have a Six Pack.

By the way, I should have credited the photo. I got it from nicksgarage.com and his excellent page on Chrysler air cleaners.

Just trying to find out if anyone has ever seen this decal on a 1970 Roadrunner with a 440 Six Barrel.

Ive seen the decal on other lids but none in recent years. .

IMO the decal is 1969 roadrunner 383 only.

But thats not to say its possible others got it. And im sure some got them installed many many years ago. As either factory mistake....or just because the owner liked it or restoration mistakes from many years ago

One thing to keep in mind is that these cars are 50 years old.
Lots of things can happen in that time: parts swapped, lost/substituted.
Back in that era we used to personalize the cars, did it myself on a couple occasions.

IMO that "Coyote Duster" decal was 1969 Road Runner 383 and RR Hemi ONLY with the air grabber system. The '69 GTX 440 and GTX Hemi and A12 did not get the coyote duster decal as far as I've seen or know.

Also the photo is captioned " '69 Six Pack Air Cleaner Decal " which is totally wrong as the only '69 3X2 carburetor system in production was the A12 option with a unique air filter base and unique to '69 air filter lid with two small "service" and "wet weather" decals .....................(which was the same style wide lip lid used on the '70 AAR Cuda and T/A Challenger).

I didn't know that about the A12 air cleaners. I stand corrected.
So these decals were put on 383 and Hemi roadrunners with air grabber, which I did know, but only on those cars; check.
So I've now got reports from a couple people on different sites that also have the decal on 70 Roadrunners, but I think it's time to put it down to someone liking the decal and changing it at some point in the car's life after it left the dealership.

And, I mistyped when I titled the photo. Clearly the engine is a Hemi.

Thanks for the info.
