Has anyone used Rare Parts for steering linkage items?

Looking at getting my original pitman arm rebuilt as it has the correct casting numbers on it and I believe it to be an original piece. I came across this place called Rare Parts (www.rareparts.com) and it seems like they can make or rebuild any part for our cars since they have their own machining shop. Has anyone on here used them before? I remember that there were issues with the repros from Moog and other manufacturers that the angles were not right and the grease fittings were too high and hit the torsion bars causing other issues.

I don't know if this helps or not. What I see in Rare Parts is:

1) they are lots of money
2) they are the only game in town for a lot of suspension/steering parts
3) what they make visually appears good

I bought some trunion bushings for my AMC SC/Rambler (don't ask) and they look good. I haven't gotten them installed so I can't tell you how well they work, but they look good.

I’m not familiar with them. Have you contacted them for a quote?

All through the 70's and 80's, parts stores I worked for used RARE PARTS for oddball suspension parts. They were always quick and reliable, though sometimes a bit pricey. If our customer could stand the shock, we weren't afraid to use them.

Here is what I got back from them.

The pitman arm cost aprox. $175.00 + freight
The idler arm cost aprox $145.00 + freight
The build time once we received the parts can take 4-10 weeks depending on our work load

What are they starting with? Raw castings?

they have new castings but they can redo your original factory ones if you send them in to them. I remember there being an issue with the pitman arm or idler arm aftermarket design (don't know about their brand) being a different angle and having the grease fitting hitting the torsion bar on the pass side.

Here is some info for thought:

From left to right: Original from my low mileage ’70 Hemi Challenger, MOOG replacement, Original (I think) from my ‘66 Hemi Satellite.

As you can see, the MOOG is not the same..... I needed to replace the pitman arm on the Satellite and wanted “the best” so I searched and found a MOOG piece. I installed it and took it for a quick spin. I promptly ran the pitmen arm and Zerk fitting into the ceramic coated header primary tube and did a fair amount of damage to the tube.

With all of that being said, these headers were 2 1/4” primary tube....

I ended up giving the MOOG to a friend who has a stock ‘66 Belvedere with exhaust manifolds. Clears everything fine.
