Carpet already has sound deadening material built in. Personally I think all that dynamat, fatmat, crapmat is silly and a waste of money; not to mention, added weight.

I have to completetly agree. I just did my Chally carpet and the padding was substantial. But I did glue padding to the roof and back seat/trunk divider.

theres material already underneath the carpet, no need and too heavy!

I did what minivan did, I use this stuff. It's only about 3/16" think and seems to help. I used it in alot of places and it did help quiet up my cars. Used it in the roof,rear speaker shelf, floor, cowel and a few other places. Can't hurt and did make a difference, because I've been driving my car since the eighties and put this into the car a few years ago. It helped my AC do a much better job, that's for sure. I only glued it to the cowel and roof,the rest I just layed into place.Used 3M spray adhesive.
What about where the carpet stops in the rear?
Cheap and very light weight.
I used it here before 71TA had heater box gaskets available.
I guess you can say I like this stuff, it's very easy to work with, cheap, easy to get, and very light weight.

i will have to try that on my firewall inside where the carpet stops.i have the heater/a/c box removed.

very expensive. depends on how much driving or racing etc. collector car theres no need, get the feel of original mopar, if u want quiet get a lexus! they are quiet. LOL

While the dynamat and its copycats is spendy, the stuff used by challenger one is not.. I believe challenger one used the insulation that has foil on both sides with the bubbles sandwiched inbetween?? I was going to use this until I found some heating duct insulation.
I found some duct insulation(at home depot) that is a felt with foil on one side and it has adhesive on the other. ABout 1/8" thick. To do my whole floor plus, cost me $50.. The local upholstery shops I spoke to all use something in the floor similar to this...

I have to put out a warning here, some of the foil looking wrapped bubble stuff is crazy flammable.
Some of it uses a real metal foil and some of it is metalized mylar.
Real foil = good
Mylar = burn baby burn

Thanks for all the good info, i quess there arepros and cons. There is a sound dedener kit on e bay for $35.00 4 piece, but I might check out home depot for something thats non flamible? and get more for my $$$. Thanks

i will never do any car without doing sound deadener. (unless it was a race car) i have been using B-Quiet and am happy. i have talked to the guys at fatmat and i like their customer service and would buy from them as well.
i am going to add B-quiet ot my roof soon. that should help even more

I think the jute backing on the carpet and the carpet would burn better than this foil stuff. It's sold as insulation so I'm sure it's approved as building materials.

I did exactly what 'Challenger1' did -floor, roof, backseat divider, under rear bench- and it made a noticeable difference. The product is very thin & the whole roll of material didn't weigh FOUR pounds.

I did the whole floor in my Demon a year ago, made a big diference in the heat coming into the car, Not a very big dif in noise, still quieter though. I got it at Lowes they have two sizes get the bigger with the foil tape that recomended, it was around $45. You can hold a lighter to it and its very hard to get it to lite. BTW remember to add whatever you use to the package tray area and behind the rear seat, this to me is where a lot of the noise and heat comes from.

my one issue with you guys using the stuff from home depot if if water gets under it its not going to dry and rot your floors badly unless its sealed really well. i would maybe put it on a roof but never a floor.

My cars never gets wet. Do you drive it in the rain? I even use waterless car wash to wash it. If you ever restore your car again, it would be a bear to get all that stuck on stuff off. IMHO
