driveshaft stamping number location - 02/14/21 02:15 AM

Hi all, can anyone guide me as to where I can find the driveshaft tube stamping number...... this is for a 69 Bee, I need to know where to find, is it near the front U-joint or the rear U-joint, does the number read parallel or perpendicular to the tube and last how is it read with the slip yoke pointing up or down ? ( driveshaft removed from car) .

Thanks, BUZZ

alaska, thanks for the info.......... so what your saying is; the number should be about 18 - 20" from the front U-joint (the end that goes to the transmission)..... got it. now that we have taken care of that, say you would have the driveshaft removed from the car and standing up with the slip yoke end pointing up towards the ceiling how would the number read, upright or upside down. Sorry about being an a$$ but I just had a new driveshaft made and just want to get all the numbers and markings correct.

Thanks, BUZZ

I am not into re-stamping numbers, so you are on your own.

Holy crap I didn't realize that just restamping my own driveshaft was such a touchy issue...... I lost the rear U-joint awhile back and the shaft dropped and bang-bang-bang all over the road and bent the sucker real bad plus the fact it was a rusted stick to begin with so, I went with a new one and just wanted to transfer the number to the new shaft and since i'am restoring the car I figured I would add in all the markings . I asked for the location of the stamping cause after hours of wire brushing rust I couldn't locate the number. NOT trying to make a hemi car or fake whatever out of a plain 383 car just like it to be correct..... no need to panic.

Hi Buzz . I have 2 clean B-body shafts i'm looking at right now and my numbers are 13.5 " from the REAR caps , top of the numbers facing the front to trans , part number wrapping around the tube about 2" to 2.25 long ending with the month and year up further on the tube , but after the part number . drive I don't think stamping a tube is a crime , its only a part number , not a vin number and as long as it's the right length , diameter and shaft for the car , who cares . shruggy the numbers are so lightly stamped you can usually never find them anyway . bump

Wheels are re-stamped, reproduction hoses and other parts are available with date codes, etc. Personally, I don’t see a problem with stamping a driveshaft. Only on a rare occasion would a person examine it. VIN tags/stickers/body stampings/engine/tranny and so on, are another story.

Thanks to you both for the info, and YES my point exact, its only stamping a driveshaft..... just transferring (my) old driveshafts number to (my) new driveshaft . Doing this is not going to increase the sale price of my car an extra 10K.............. not like I'm restamping an engine block or trans. or a vin. plate. Please, all remain calm do not panic NO fraudulent activity going on at this point.

Thanks, Later BUZZ
