$10 per foot

$10 per foot - 12/09/20 10:51 PM

I found a local guy who polishes stainless and he said it was about $10 per foot for him to polish all of my drip rails and window trim. He figures he earns about $30 per hour. Does this seem like a good price? Thanks, Tim

I did all mine for a Vinyl top 70 Cuda and there is a LOT of trim when you include the m88 tail molding, front grill, etc. $10/foot sounds really high to me, unless that includes some dent and scratch repair. It’s a dirty tedious job, but it’s also rewarding as stainless polishes beautifully,

What would be a WAG as to what it costs to do a 68 Charger?

Yes that includes some dent and scratch repairs, he said it was worst case for estimating.

SS is hard as a rock so it takes time to make it look nice. Some dents don't come out if they are hard to get at so make sure your not paying him to fix a part that he can't really fix to your liking.

If you want it perfect and it can't be made perfect then be prepared to dig up another part.

Thank God Chrysler used a lot of stainless, we would be in dire straights today if not

500.00 for it all should be a good number...

Someone with a shop, that really knows what they are doing will charge $50 an hour. These kinds of shops can fix anything, tig pieces together and your trim will make the chrome look dull, it looks like a jewelery. They make or have dollies to fit your trim, and straighten it just like bodywork, then block sand it, then finer paper and compounds until it is perfect. One other thing they will have is plenty of work.

I prefer the look of highly polished stainless over that of chrome....but I think it’s my brain correcting my eyes a bit....cause that stainless shine can be worked....and that chrome can’t. I love stainless! Thank you for the extensive use of it on the vintage mopars!

I have always done my work by bidding the job before hand.
As it varies part to part time wise.
From simple sand and built stage polish stainless to fixing complex damages on trim before hand
Same goes with aluminium.
.8 to 10 rounds about right.

I know it is facebook but Todd Beelner from Kingsley Iowa does our stainless. He did a 55 crown vic for us afew years back, These are the trim from the cruiser skirts. Honestly you get what you pay for and IMO he is one of the best in the country. Has stuff coming in from all over.

Mine is no where near that bad, most of it looks new in comparison. For at least what I can find...

I used Bruce Dell in Hubbard, Ohio. I don't know about his per foot rate but he did every piece of Stainless trim on my 71 Cuda for $640.00.

Todd only does stainless but has contacts that he will bring plated stuff to place in Omaha Nebraska. He has guys that have brought trim that had holes drilled in them. Either he welds them up or has a guy that will do that for him. Then he goes to town. He told me he has options on how he does his bright work. Driver quality and roll out of an enclosed trailer. The 55 Crown we had him do was very very costly but he did all the body trim inside and out, grille and also took all of the trim that had to be chrome plated. I just put him and my customer in contact with each other and my customer paid him. He had done work for some big name builders as well as local guys around South Dakota,Iowa,Minnesota and Nebraska. If you talk with him tell him Corey from Hartford's Best Paint and Body sent you.

This is a road runner convertible trim piece that someone drilled holes in it for snaps. I thought I could find the picture of it finished but not seeing it right now. I know after it was all done there was no way you would known it had a hole drilled in it. The other pic is a milk truck someone did in Illinois that had him do the front trim then brought the front end over for him to install it on. He is crazy talented . Personally I think stainless steel rework is an art.

Todd just posted these side by side pics of a trim piece for a grille on a KB grille. It is an art form in my eyes.
