Dash to cowl sealant ? - 11/29/20 12:04 AM

'68 B body.
Does anyone know if the factory used any kind of material in between where the top of the dash and cowl meet ? I'm thinking there was a thin strip of butyl when I disassembled it, but I may be mis-remembering smirk

I don't think so, they used a black sealer that went in the windshield gasket groove that kinda ran between the frame and body thru the years. The service manual says to fill the weatherstrip groove with sealer and to put a 3/8 bead across the cowl panel. I can tell you on my car there was no shortage of sealer there, on top of the dash, and, cowl pinch weld. On my car they ran that sealer up the a-pillar about 6" in the groove, and they had clear sealer between the glass and gasket, 6" up and all the way across the bottom. It also had clear in the upper corners, was the original untouched windshield. Run away from anyone that says no sealer is needed with a rubber gasket.
