Hemi Alternator

Hemi Alternator - 11/16/20 02:28 PM

I've seen an alternator for sale that is supposed to be from a 1966 Street Hemi. It has a dual belt pulley. Did any of the '66 Hemis use a double belt alternator pulley? I've never seen one, even with power steering.

I won't disagree, but of the Hemis I've seen (predominately 1966 and 1967) I can't remember one having a dual groove pulley on the alternator. What does your latest acquisition have, if I may ask?

A friend got down pointed because he had the single pulley. Had extensive documentation from original owner that it WAS the one that came on the car. Also got raked because it didn’t have the HP2 emblem on the trunk lid, which it didn’t come with. Ha, he told Galen to take his book and shove it where the sun don’t shine. This is a 67 GTX Hemi auto. I was told by a man who worked on the assembly line at that time that if a particular part was not there then whatever was on the table that fit, got put on, they was no stopping the line.

Re: Hemi Alternator - 11/17/20 01:36 AM

I believe the 66-68ish??? are single pulley. The double pulley showed up with the new crankshaft pulley and water pump pulley for late 68 and 69 up. Think it may be tied to the switch to the Federal pump in late 68 and up for hemi cars.

264253"7" not 1 is a common 37 amp with the single 2444478 pulley which I believe is correct.

Its dated 4-67 . it works perfect so I will NOT be on the lookout for a Hemi alternator for this car

from my understanding 66-67 were single pulley alternator. 68 went to dual groove alternator pulley more commonly referred to as hemi alternator pulley.

I would like to find an upper radiator hose shaped close to that

PS, interesting note. the heater hoses are NOT crossed like everyone says they should be

And like I said Galen Govia, whatever his name is, took off points from my friends 67GTX Hemi auto for NOT having a duel pully. The single was definatly original.

Is there a starter harness support bracket on the motor - can’t tell in the 4th from bottom image. Asking for a friend that has a 71.

Great pictures Matt.

Any idea the history / details of this engine.?????

I know its a fantasy.
BUT, Im told my car MIGHT have originally came out of Ky back in the day. Story Im told is supposedly early in its life the car was stolen , then recovered shortly after. Only missing its engine and trans .

Re: Hemi Alternator - 11/26/20 02:10 PM

Lou, I don’t remember it have a bracket, but it very well
Could have been removed in times. I put the short bracket on my 66 as I think that correct, but seems like the long bracket might be correct for the later cars. Someone else might be better at those than myself.

I saw this engine in SC as a friend of mine had just purchased it and the original hemi torqueflite still bolted together. He had bought it from someone had had it many years in a garage. I was shocked to see how original it was so I took several pictures. Not real sure of much else.
