N96 with TA hood air cleaners - 10/19/20 11:24 AM

I know we’re talking about a rare phenomenon here and there is at least one guy here that has a 70 Challenger that is a factory TA hood 383 four barrel car. Does anyone have any pictures of the air cleaners that mopar used on these cars? I rember seeing a guy walking around the Mopar Nats with a four barrel one with the ta style seal that sure looked factory. This was long ago when it was held at Indy. I talked to a guy around San Antonio long ago that said he had an oem one for a TA hood Hemi Challeger he had parted out.

What you want to search for is N94 air cleaner bases, not N96. I believe there are some nice, steel reproductions out there currently.

I believe this generally accepted as the design Chrysler settled on for use on these 4 barrel N94 cars.
Has its own part number as well.
Borrowed some of these pics from the interweb

Terry - That breather never made sense to me until Dan (6bblgt) shared pics of the adapter plate that allows it to make a seal to the underside of the hood. Hopefully he’ll chime in to this post.

Yes Dan would know more.
He may in fact now own that one, but I'm quite sure he has one.
Ken Papa had one once in his dealership stockroom
Then I think Galen acquired it and sold it, perhaps to Mosier ?
I know Chrysler had another prototype developed by Fram that never made it to production.
Funny that this never had a top bridge attached where the carb stud would go through

I have two 4bbl N94 air cleaners (one water drain & two water drains), the NOS unit Tom (in TX) & Ken Mosier used to own has the 340 part number and one drain
there is a different part number for the 383/440 4bbl base, but I have never seen one & do NOT know what it looks like ( is it as simple as one drain VS. two ?? ) shruggy

here's a HEMI - N94 air cleaner base on a Mopart's members race-HEMI powered RR (I forget whose car this is) it is basically a HEMI SHAKER BASE welded to a T/A-AAR "ring"

I believe this is the single 4bbl air cleaner "mccannix" used to own (FRAM prototype) - again basically a SHAKER 4bbl base welded to a T/A-AAR "ring"

Dan
Thanks for the information and pictures.
First time I have ever seen a picture of the adapter plate as mentioned by Floyd.
It makes sense now...and yes that is a picture of the prototype I got from Fram that was found in their hobby shop

Re: N96 with TA hood air cleaners - 10/20/20 01:00 AM

I guess this would have been used on the '71 T/A, if they had built any.
Or would there have been another version for the switch to the TQ on the 340?

Always wondered if radio equipped cars had the antenna in the trunk like the AAR and T/As did?
Since Chrysler stated it was to improve reception on the glass hood cars.

I know of 5 non-T/A N94 cars for 1970 2-HEMI R/Ts, 1-383 R/T, 1-340 A66, 1-383 SE

4 are "SOLD CARS" Y14 - two have radios, fender mounted antennae & rear seat speakers *** the other two are HEMI cars and radio "DELETE"
the other "SALES BANK" car Y16 has a radio & fender mounted antennae

Dan, clean out your PMs. There is a vin number on a hp block in the WIW section under “440 stuff” you need to see. They guy is wanting to sell the block.
