installing trunk torsion springs - 10/01/20 01:16 AM

On a '68 B body convertible, can the trunk torsion springs be installed with the deck lid on ? I've futz with it for a bit and it seems the hinge arms are in the way.

These photos are A body but may be similar to your car. Without the deck lid looks to be easier. Having it bolted to the hinges doesn't appear to matter as long as the deck lid is up, but I've never tried that. Should be very difficult with the deck lid down. eek

The ends of the torsion bars that fit into the hinges are at the top of this photo. The top of the rod on the right fits into the right hinge. If the wrong one is put into the hinge, the anchor end will be clocked wrong.

The clocking of the anchor end of the un-stressed rod in the 2nd photo below is with the hinge in about the closed lid position. In the 3rd photo below, the clocking is with the hinge raised.

Use a crescent wrench to wind the bar to the anchor hole.

Nice job on the instructions, KentJ, that should be in the Archives for future reference.
