Rim Blow Switch Removal - 09/29/20 04:36 AM

Hi I'm redoing a rim blow wheel for my Challenger ragtop.
Does anyone know of a clever way to to remove what used to be the switch?
Thanks

sounds like the switch is no good, then just peel it off and clean out the channel that it sits in...installing the new one is alot harder

I've had switches that come out of the slot/track rather easily and some that were pretty stuck from age and rubber degradation.
There should not have been glue used, if it is original. The switch has a wide spot that tucks into the slot, so should come out.
Start at one end and pull it out. It if is already trash, it doesn't matter. Your priority is to NOT screw up the wheel.
If any pieces and parts are left over, use a very tiny blade screw driver or a dental pick to remove leftover pieces.
The whole channel should be smooth and free from rubber bits.

After 50 or so years, the switch on my wheel had turned into sort of a rubberized concrete. One layer came up easy (about 1/16" worth), but the rest seemed almost permanent.
I ended up using a Dremel with a wire wheel (make sure you do this outside or you'll spend hours cleaning your garage DAMHIK), then digging the rest with an Xacto.

I'm just gonna suggest a narrow wood chisel, and patience.
