?'s about e-boy windshield glass spacers

Can anybody tell me what these "spacers" are om WS trim? Pic is from a 70 ply shop manual. Thank You

Never seen anything like that in over 40+ years of owning or restoring E bodies, I reviewed all the factory prints regarding 70-71 E body front windshield install that I have from the assy line, nothing like that mentioned, yes alignment spacers were used, but they were very small in nature, nothing like what's in that FSM

I agree with Mike. I've put more than a half dozen E body windshields in, and never seen anything like that. There are 2 spacers that go at the bottom of the windshield opening, and most of the time the old ones are salvageable and can be reused. If they can't, the seal kit comes with some generic ones that fit at the bottom of the flat part of the opening instead of the 2 places the factory put them.

As shown, they would have to be thin to fit between mldgs & glass.
Term spacer could just mean a thin type of trim piece (rubber, plastic).
Maybe any early year item, abandoned later on?
Book pic just mentions Barracuda only.
Do any such items appear on models other then e-body?

I have factory diagram/prints right down to the actual assy line rigs used to hold/install the E body glass along with the procedures to be used on the assy line from 70-71, no such mention of an items, perhaps it's for another model?, sometimes FSM's use generic pics? or group in other models/methods in their text...

I think you are reading the wrong body section. At the top of the directions it says Valiant. That is a different animal than an E body.

It shows "fiq 8 Barracuda" regarding the upper windshield moldings and "spacers", and the op says it's a 70 FSM, but FSM's are not infallible....

Agree: FSM's not always 100%.
But do any other mopar bodies use any type of thin plastic between those mldgs & the glass surface?
Maybe to keep trim edge off the glass?
Or maybe a never-say-never quirk.
Wish I had more year manuals to look thru.

Did you check a parts book yet? I wanted to when I was up in my garage, but forgot to. Looking at that illustration it sure looks like a back window to me.

I probably have parted several hundred e bodies in 39 years of messing with these cars and every once in a while I would find these thin plastic spacers under the windshield and rear window trim. It was slipped inside the stainless and looks like its purpose was to stop rattles. Maybe a recall or in the field update? I may have some trim here with this spacer still in place but overall I saw this very seldom.

Got me thinking: any type of thin plastic like you mentioned could possibly stop rattling of that trim against glass at higher speeds/winds.
Betcha it was an early "fore thought" by engineers, but eliminated by some "bean counters" at Chrysler.

Yes. Those are thin spacers that are underneath window mouldings for the back window. I have them on my original back window mouldings on my 68 Dodge Coronet 2 door hdtp.
They are black about 1/16th of an inch thick and the width of the moulding. Agree with Challenger Steve about its purpose to minimize rattles. Probably keeps the window from getting scratched by the moulding as well.

Then I guess that pic in FSM does apply to e-bodies.
Probably applied to both font/rear glass also.
Be nice to find reference to them in parts catalog.
So because "I never saw it" doesn't seem to always apply.

So much for the "factory" "Bible" prints being "absolute". Colleague sent me pic of challenger rear glass mldg with said "spacer" installed. Also noted that this part shows up in parts catalog in Strip-Form, cut to length. Also said, these were probably discarded if glass was ever replaced. Oh-Well
