Six Pack Negative Cable Serrated Washer

Six Pack Negative Cable Serrated Washer - 02/24/20 06:38 PM

I have a 1970 Plymouth Superbird with a 440 Six Barrel engine.
I am looking for a correct and preferably original or NOS serrated washer for the negative battery cable end.
This manifold bolt also fastens the bracket for the throttle return spring.
The throttle return spring bracket has notches stamped into it for the special washer I'm looking for.
I have attached a picture of another engine with the correct washer in place.
If you can help send me a pm!
Thanks!

Is it a standard external star washer in a common size? Or is it a captured star washer that is part of the bolt head?

It is a standard external washer.
Thanks! John

It's just a lock washer. Widely used in the aircraft industry.

I looked for that exact washer and never found anything that was I felt close enough.
Its an external tooth lock washer but the originals the serrated tooth was shaped different than anything I came up with

According to Frank Badalson, there is no washer here. This is from one of his tech articles I saved.

Jim,
Thanks for the reply with the copy of the article and photos!
I guess I'm going to delete my wanted ad for a washer.

The article says "always". I will respectfully disagree.

This one is on a 1968 model year 440 HP assembled 11-22-1967.

(note the original date coded spark plug wires too, this car has just over 8,600 miles on it)

I agree. Look at the lack of paint on the cable end. It appears it was under the return bracket at one time. Makes sense that the factory would make the connection as to not be able to corrupt the ability for grounding with paint. But back to the original topic and picture, it may just be an optical illusion that there is a washer there. That is probably the serrations on the brackets that appear to be a washer.

I also thought that about the unpainted end on that cable.
I also agree that my original picture does not have a washer just the serrations stamped into the bracket.
I have removed the solid washer and touched up my bracket and it now looks like that picture.
Thanks for all the replies!

Funny my 4 Bbl return spring bracket has the imprint from a star washer. I just didn't know if the cable was under the or on top with washer under the bolt head.

Thank you for the info. I'm I will not have to take a manifold bolt out of a freshly painted engine.

What is the consensus on the negative battery cable about over or under the bracket on a A12?
