AAR Lower Shock Mount

AAR Lower Shock Mount - 02/10/20 06:19 PM

I originally put a set of KYB's on my AAR but they are really to stiff for me. The most popular replacement is Monroe's so I ordered a set. When it came time to install on the lower mount I realized that the eyelet on the Monroe was to wide. After reaching out to a couple of more knowledgeable folks, I learned that I needed to remove the sleeve from the lower mount shaft in order to install the Monroes. I did more research and saw a set of NOS 3400854 shocks on Ebay. According to my broadcast sheet, 54 is in the box for the rear shocks. A quick look in parts book indicated that the correct number is 3400854 which is high performance for small and big blocks for 1970. The 3400854 shocks have a more narrow eyelet hence the reason for the sleeve.

Has anyone else ever seen a sleeve like this on their cars?

Appreciate the input

i believe that "sleeve" is a leftover from a "????" brand of shock. it needs to come off.
i have swapped a ton of shocks in the last 50+ years, and ALL of the mopar shock studs did NOT have that "sleeve".
this includes all makes and models, including 1/2 & 3/4 ton shocks.

I removed the sleeves yesterday and all is good.

Thanks for all the replies.
