69 Roadrunner Interior Panel Fitment Issue

69 Roadrunner Interior Panel Fitment Issue - 01/23/20 03:12 AM

Not even sure what the correct name is for this panel, but I'm having some issues installing both sides in my 69 roadrunner, and would appreciate any advice or knowledge on the subject.

THE PART:

[Linked Image]

Somewhere along the way of restoring my 69 Roadrunner (post car) I misplaced both these panels. The ones I'm using now (pictured) are not the originals. I bought them through Moparts and had them repainted without test fitting them. I figured they'd fit, I mean why wouldn't they? (was my thinking)

THE PROBLEM:

They look like the right part and fit into place, BUT in order to line up the screw holes along the bottom edge of the panel for a proper fit, the panel sits a bit too high and absolutely makes contact with the chrome latch that pops the window in and out.

THINGS I'VE CONSIDERED:

1) I might have purchased a set of 68 or 70 panels, and the 69 versions are different, and so these won't ever fit.

2) I installed the rear pop-out windows incorrectly so the latch isn't correctly placed causing the entire issue.

Here are more photos that might help with seeing the issue. Any helpful advice would be awesome.

Other side, but you can see how I have the pop out window mounted:

Possibly you have ones for a hardtop with crank down windows. Just a thought.

I appreciate that. These here have the void for the post, so I know they're not for a hardtop car. Thanks though!

Yup, Dodge Coronet; they're longer because of the wheelbase.

Just like the vinyl top molding the dodge is slightly longer than plymouth

The pop-out windows are longer on a Dodge than on a Plymouth too. WINGNUT

Thank you guys. It seems the issue is that I bought Dodge panels rather than Plymouth. I won't tell you how long I've been scratching my head and trying to figure out what I was doing wrong...should have asked here sooner. Thank you MOPARTS, and thank you Sixbbl 69 for recognizing the likely issue.

The glass is the same, the roof gutter trim is the same, the roof skin is the same Coronet to Satllite.
The vinyl top trim is different and the side chrome around the top opening is different Coronet to Satellite.

The difference is the angle from the door jamb to the corner of the window opening. So where the window fuzzies mount is at a different angle.Coronets go up higher. Looks like you have one dodge and one Plymouth panel.

Since the other side fits correctly, measure from the bottom edge straight up to the highest point on the panel. And compare

A hardtop panel won’t fit where a coupe panel belongs because coupe has cutouts.

Neither right or left fit, they're are matching panels. I showed pictures of the passenger side of the car (without the panel) so members could see how my pop out windows were installed.

HT vs Coupe is easy to tell because Coupe panels have the provision for the B-pillar.

I have a spare set. Did not know there was difference Dodge vs. Plymouth. If you can tell me how to confirm they are Plymouth I would be happy to sell them.

Maybe you can post or PM me some dimensions of the ones you have. Joe

Thank you Joe. I didn't know there was difference either. Nearly all other interior parts are shared. Shortly after posting, a moparts member offered to send me a clean plymouth set, so I think I'll be okay.

I'll post side by side pictures to note the differences when I can.

I received a pair of correct Plymouth panels from a very cool and friendly Moparts member (Hemirdrnnr).

At first glance I didn't see the difference, because I was looking at the overall length, which is actually the same. The difference (as shown in the photo below) is that the Dodge panel is taller / higher. This explains why my pop out window latches are making contact with the incorrect Dodge panels and won't work / fit correctly.

Thanks again to all involved in finding the much needed answer to this issue!
