1967 Hemi GTX two fender tags - 01/19/20 11:16 AM

Hi,

this 1967 GTX has two Fender tags.
Never seen a Hemi tag on a 67 GTX before even though I usually don't look at 67 GTX too often

Common or not?
My memory says I have never seen it on a 67 GTX before.

Yes, its factory. My dad had a 67 Hemi GTX about 15 years ago. Got a chance to speak to the guy who restored it, back in the late 80's, and he still had the factory Hemi Engine fender tag for it. He kept it as a suveneir. There is another 67 Hemi GTX in a neighboring town, survivor, other than an outside repaint, and it doesn't have the tag.

Interesting. My '67 Hemi GTX has only the one fender tag. Looking at this one, at first I thought it might be an assembly plant thing but my car is an RS23J77 (St Louis) car also. BTW, I can't help noting the "numbers matching" garbage, again.

The 66, 67, and a few other early year Hemi cars came down the assembly line with the Hemi Engine tag wired to bare unibody shell to let line workers know to add Hemi components like Torque boxes to the unibody as it moved down the line. After paint the tags were pulled off and usually tossed inside the car before the carpeting was installed where most remained. Occasionally they were installed on the inner fender with the other tag like the bronze car linked above but this was not the norm.

That's the 1st time Ive seen a HEMI tag on anything ( besides the Hemi fender tag on E bodies )

Beautiful car though. And would love to own that one. As I LOVE the color combination.,,,,,,,but that one is WAY out of my budget. And has been for sale for over a year that I know of .

My 1967 car had that extra engine tag on the drivers floor and there is a paint outline of that tag, no paint on the floor or the backside of the tag. Still had original carpet and interior.

I think it is the owners install them under the hood by the usual fender tag, I don’t think the factory did it that way. In the 80’s Looking at original paint, unrestored, and parted out cars I never saw one underhood, or the extra screw hole to mount it.

And IMO it looks REALLY stupid with it mounted under the hood.

Not to hijack...but my old boss (parts manager at a Dodge dealer) back in the 80's...bought a brand new Hemi GTX, similar to this one, right after he came home from Vietnam. The color combo he told me, was similar to this car, but IIRC his had the black hood stripes. I just thought it cool at the time, that he bought a brand new Hemi car, after coming home from the war. thumbs

If I remember right, it was wired to the mirror during assembly, and generally would have been found under the carpet years later, or not at all.. Probably was never applied to the fender apron.
