1969 Daytona 727 transmission - 12/07/19 10:27 PM

This transmission was removed from a 69 Daytona back in 1972 by the current owner. It has a Feb. date on it but was not VIN stamped?? Is it possible this is/was the original transmission or is the lack of partial VIN mean it’s a warranty replacement?

Thanks

Not likely to be the original but might be a warranty replacement

2/3/69 on the date

A trans stamped like that came from a car on the assembly line. They just forgot the VIN. That’s not a replacement trans.

What brings you to that conclusion? Those numbers had to do with application, date they were built and unit built. Then they were put in inventory to be installed. If they were not installed, they then stayed in inventory as excess parts.

My question was the motor stamped or not? May have missed them both. What’s the SPD of the car? What are the dates stamped on other parts. Start digging, Tom. Lol.

I have a 671 70 transmission and it is like this one with no VIN.

I think it is an early field replacement

I’ve got a 672 trans no VIN...I always assumed it was a warranty replacement.

I also have a 727 H/D, 4-planetary unit with Nothing stamped on it ANYWHERE. Only casting dates, but that’s in a one off executive Imperial Limousine.

No number on the pan rail means it got a new case,
The plant would not ship a trans assembly without numbers on the pan rail.

Did you look on the top edge of the bellhousing? scope I had a numbers matching 69 Charger R/T that had the engine and trans vin stamped on the top of the flanges of the motor and transmission. Both the motor, and transmission had the full VIN stamped on them, and they were right next to each other on the flanges.

Similar to what was common in 68? I don't recall seeing any number there, but will confirm again tonight.

As far as any VIN numbers on the block, I will be checking with the owner but will not have answer till January at best.

Thanks

If that was done in early 69 that would have been a mistake.

I sold that car to a Moparts member in the early 2000's, but I don't remember who? I wish I had taken pics of the VIN stamps, because I remember thinking it was odd. The car was F8 green, and IIRC, it went to Minnesnowda.
