Best Vinyl Top manufacturer (Superbird)? - 10/23/19 07:05 PM

I need a new top for the Superbird. Who is manufacturing the best pieces?

Also, are there any "gotchas" special to the bird for this job?

TIA

I bought a Legendary for mine, it is nice. The gotchas....if its not been touched before the back glass and trim can be a real pain, lots of sealer, and hard from being old,, trim is close to glass so getting the tool in is tough on some cars. I got a real thin knife to cut the sealer and sat the car in the sun. On mine even the inner trim was glued, had to go real slow, 2 guys with a wire to cut it apart and not damage the trim. The window plug fit may be an issue too if it is not smooth under the top now, could be some rust in the window channel, some cars are worse than others. For glue stick with 3m or dap landau top adhesive.

I bought a top for my dart from Top Creations in OK. Same place that made the top for the ECS 4 door Cuda.

Material and pattern is better than what others offer.

Also they use Haartz material. Ask for a sample book if you need one.

Thank you I will pass this on to the top guy. He does 90% classic cars so I know he has some experience with old trim. I will go over it carefully though.

Top Creations look like maybe they are no longer in business?

Top top on the bird has 2 seams running lengthwise. I want to make sure the replacement top I get is made in the same way.

They will make it how you want it as far a seam spacing. Legendary and others who make tops for my Dart have the seams below the window in the wrong location.

You have to call them as they are an older couple who don't do much on the net. They also work limited hours.

Guy has decades of experience, but may have never done a Superbird. I would buy a bed sheet and trace out the top of the car onto it with a marker along with the seam spacing and mail it to him.

And here is an O.E.M. top which I was fortunate to find back in the early 90's for comparison if you want to compare grain with today's vinyl .

When you search this place you get two different places for some reason. The 1719 Linwood Blvd is the one you want.

Phone numbers in the packet Michael sent me:

1-800 749 3924

405 232 8545

This is obviously more effort than clicking 'add to cart' off a website, but I think the better material is worth the effort.
