Chrome plastic plater recommendations? - 08/26/19 08:30 PM

Hi, we have a 1970 Charger plastic dash bezel that needs to have the chrome redone.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

As a professional restorer for over 45 years, I've tried a lot of the plastic chrome platers out there. there are a number of good one (they have passed thru by the test of time). I ended up using GCAR Trim out of Washington for the last 15+ years. Glenn is honest, fair on price, and takes great pride in high quality. He goes the extra mile for you when you have a problem (a part that he has not done before) and is great at helping with solutions.

For what it might cost you to replate it, then detail it out, you might want to consider the repros on the market?

I also recommend GCAR, as well as Instrument Specialties. They offer different services so call them both and ask questions, you can't go wrong with either one.

I have also used Vacuum Ornametal. I know they do not get much recognition but they are great people and do a fantastic job. I really deal with just 3rd gen chargers but they have done several dash bezels for me and they are fantastic. I am not taking away from the others mentioned at all this is just another option.

FYI, we ended up going with Vacuum Ornametal in MI. Frank took great care of us, great price, 5 week turnaround, and most important, a fantastic job!

I would definitely recommend them. Thanks

I am glad you gave them a shot. Like I said it was a great experience from the professionalism to the quality of the work. I knew you would not be disappointed.

What did have them do?

Remove the lenses? detail work? or just the chroming?

He did these 5 pieces. I'll get the after shot soon.

I just received my order back from Frank at vacuum Ornametal. Outstanding work and communication. I’ve used all the guys mentioned in this thread more than once. You can’t go wrong with any of them, but if you need the parts returned within a reasonable timeframe, give Frank a shot.

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. They did the detailing but you did the disassembly down to and including removing the lens.

Glad it worked out as I said earlier outstanding work with a reasonable turn around. Super people to deal with and above all a really competitive price!

Looks like you sent some extra sets of dash bezels. Did they paint the black and white the letters? Is this expensive? Thanks

They did all the detailing, including the white lettering. The price is inline with GCAR. Everything in that picture was just over a grand.
