Where to find good motor mounts 70 B-Body

Does anybody know where I can buy good quality motor mounts for a 1970 b body with a 440.
I picked some up from O'Reilys and ended up throwing them in the garbage after sawing the studs and realizing how cheap they were.
Looked at NAPA, and the same thing.
I picked up some Mancini Mag mounts, but they are two different thickness. Sending them back Monday.
I'm posting this in the restoration forum as I don't want no chains, straps, poly mounts or other race car solutions.
Actually, my 40 year old moogs look better then anything I can find new and I'm considering using them if I can't find a motor mount.
Would be nice to put some new mounts on before I put the engine back in.

All the parts stores are the same crap. You have to saw off the studs. I’ve used the Mighty Mounts because the won’t break. You may have to cut some off the studs to keep it from hitting the block. I can’t remember. They are not cheap, for sure. Unfortunately, they don’t fit the k member any better than the cheap repops. You have to grind down the part that sits on the k frame or it will not sit flat and you can’t get the bolt in place. It’s not a fun lesson when you get to the end and then realize you have to start over. Fit the mount to the k member first. It’s sad that most repop parts now are close enough to use but not a direct easy fit. It’s like they do it on purpose. I installed a set a “Metro” door panels on a Challenger the other day and as good as they are, they still have shortcomings. They are too short at the front of the door and don’t line up with the top screw very well.

USED/NOS is your only choice if you wish to narrow your field....

I have the Schumacher Poly Loc mounts, about as close to factory as your going to get from an aftermarket source, plus they have an interlock feature to prevent them from tearing in half...they've been in my 70 440/6 Charger for 14 years...ZERO issues

I don't think these new motor mounts at O'Reilys, Napa or other stores even meet manufactures specifications.
and they call these OEM replacement parts, I can see a repop part not working, but an OEM?
These new mounts have to have the studs shortened so they don't put a hole in the block,
and the rubber is way too soft as I could probably pull them apart easily if I wanted to.
I purchased a set at the local parts store for less then $7.00 each. If I remember correctly, Moogs used to cost about $15. to $20 each 40 years ago.
I don't mind paying for a quality part. especially when a failure could result in a damaged hood, air cleaner, fan shroud or radiator.
Maybe I will just use my 40 year old Moogs.
I've heard the Poly mounts and the so called "Bolt Thru" mounts cause a lot of vibration for a street driven restoration.

As I mentioned above I have the Poly Locs from Schumacher and I would venture to say no more vibration than factory rubber mounts....no fitment issues either, bolted on and fit like factory pcs....

Only one I was concerned about was the drivers side on my 383/432 Stroker

I see you assembled them, then drilled thru the mount and the bracket.
Probably the easiest and cheapest.

May I ask what are NOS ones selling for these days? Never see any around..

My mounts are NOS, made in USA, TRW branded replacements from the '80s.

I realize this is the resto area, but many restored cars are also packing more heat than stock...so maybe this is worth bringing up....

I've addressed the left mount as most everyone else has.

What have you done to address the right mount from being smashed downward? Does anyone care?

Look how the bottom of the oil pan is not quite parallel to the K member....this is pretty common...

Most seem to let it go but I'm not too happy to watch it happening, and am going to a motor plate to stop it.

If you decide to buy from your local jobbers

Take them out of the box first before walking out

Look at where the nut is welded to the mount etc

I must have had ten in my hand before picking two that I was happy with from different jobbers

Then Ace Hardware for that countersunk grade 8 bolt etc.

So far so good

But of course when I was looking a few years back

None to bee found

last set I bought ( keep in mind its been a few years now ) and I think I paid $50 for the pair

IMO that's a steal. I would think $100-125pr for real nice Nos ones... especially with the cheap ones made nowadays that are useless unless you never hit the gas pedal...

I've been running a set of solid mounts for a couple decades. No vibration problem for me, but it's a well balanced engine.

That's exactly what I did on the left side engine mount on Kayse's 69 383 Dart GTS.
Two bolts through it with lock nuts and you really can't see that it's been done.
No future broken mount and no vibration.
Just a stock style new mount on the right side, engine sits level.

I did the same mod as SNK-EYZ, easy and effective.(and cheap!)

I picked up some mounts from NAPA and the hardware I need to modify the mount.
I cut the studs to the correct length and went to check the fit on the K frame as Fastmark mentioned above, and the mounts do not fit the K frame.
The mounts are resting on the bolts and not flat on the K frame.
the bolt holes and nut centerline are about 1" off the flat surface as shown in the picture.

On my 35 year old Moogs, the centerline is less then 3/4" off the flat surface as shown in this picture.

I can't believe these stores are selling this crap as OEM replacement parts.
Either I cut the nuts off and reweld them correctly or modify my 35 year old Moogs.
This motor mount crap has set me back over one month already.
I think if someone was to Re-Pop these mounts correctly, they could make a small fortune

Thanks bee1971, I too looked at about 10 different mounts and only 2 of the 10 were useable.
I thought I would share some pics of my findings.
The first two pics are the good ones from O'Reilys.
they are dull looking with a bent one piece steel bracket and crudely welded nut.
I also noticed the good ones were made in Korea as shown on the box and the mount itself.



The ones that won't work are nice and shiney and the bracket appears to be made from 3 pieces welded together
with the nut crimped instead of welded. The nut is not located in the correct position and the engine will be resting
on the long mounting bolt in the k frame and not resting on the mount itself. These mounts were made in China.

bee1971, I'm assuming you countersunk the holes with an 82deg bit to get the screw to sit flush?
