Original Dealer

Original Dealer - 05/18/19 12:45 PM

Hi everyone. I was wondering if there is some way to find out what dealership originally sold my car. I own a 1970 Duster 340 which I believe was originally sold locally. Is there a dealer code on the build sheet. I understand that records are not available through the Chrysler Historical Society.

I don't think it's on the broadcast sheet. It's definetly on the window sticker sheet that was glued on to the side window.
It is on the upper left side of the sheet. It's a 5 digit numerical number that represented the dealership that ordered the car.

Thanks GMP440. Unfortunately, I don't have the original window sticker.

It should also be in the warrenty booklet with the orig owners info and date and vin number. Sometimes this page is ripped out. Luckily my car had it

Your build sheet contains the order number.

Every dealer had an order book with a set of numbers

Sadly I don't think anyone has compiled a list of dealers to matched order numbers

Sales bank cars were also ordered via pads.

Thousands & thousands of them......

Sales bank cars were shipped to dealers Chrysler chose.

There were also dealerships that did inter-dealer trades.

So the dealership a car was originally shipped to may not be the dealership that actually sold it.

The only real way to know which dealership or dealerships were involved in the sale of any car is to see an actual original record with the facts.

True.

The only 100% way is to have the sales invoice.

But Barry, correct me if I'm wrong, the original window sticker would always have the dealer listed that the car was originally shipped to printed on it no matter where is actually sold (inter-dealer trade)?

Some of the T/As sold via Mr. Norms still had the Aurora Dodge paperwork with them.

I am sure that other examples exist as well.
