Electrical upgrade question. - 05/04/19 03:22 PM

Added in a RT-engineering volt limiter in my 71 RR with factory tach. It seems in doing so, I've lost mounting for the ground. Or, I'm not sure where this ground with tracer goes. Any thoughts? Service manual and an extra nontach cluster for reference.

Anyone else do these upgrades on their 71/72 B/E BODY?

You can make a short jumper with an eyelet to male Packard 59 terminal, 16 gauge wire would be fine. The eyelet could go between the VR and screw and the other side to the two conductor black wires.

Seem like I had an extra ground when I ddid the same thing, I think I just let it hang, but not 100% sure.

Cut the mounting tab off the old one and install it over the existing mounting, under the same screw, connect the cluster ground. Or replace the spade connector on the ground wire, install a ring terminal, install it under the mounting screw. Would not recommend just leaving it disconnected, there is reason the ground wire exists.

I did it to a 73 Cuda. The mounting ground was sufficient for the RT regulator. Just hooked the octopus to the gauges on the stud and 12 V connector on to the blade. Has been installed for over five years now with all gauges reading properly.
