Ever seen a paint daub with a stamped in date code? - 04/24/19 05:21 PM

I found this when cleaning up the 741 case from my 1970 Valiant, it is the first time I have seen an 8 3/4" center housing stamped like this.

Cool that is it a 3.23 with what may be the final assembly date of 3-23-70? If so, awesome coincidence. beer

Holy cow. Where is that car from that a marking like that, in that location, survived for 49 years?

It was ordered new in Colorado, still less than 35K miles.

After a 20 minute soak in Evaporust;

That's really amazing. You'd think a paint daub in that location would be really fragile and likely to disappear, even if the car was well maintained. What a cool find.

It has paint daubs all over. It still has the factory broken off zerc fittings in the front suspension parts also.

I had to go back through old photos, this one was taken very close to 5 years ago, I just missed the stamped in numbers back then.

Has anyone else ever seen a date code stamp like this on an 8 3/4" housing? It is a new one to me, but if there is one, others are likely out there........

I think I’ve seen something similar on an LA built 71 340 Demon.

I’ll look through my pics later.

The broadcast sheet calls for a 752 propeller shaft, it has a date code of 3 70;

Here's a similar stamp that was on my 71 340 Cuda Convertible. The car has a 331 SPD. Differential is a 3.23 open with small u joints. Don't pay attention to the yellow paint blotches, these are overspray from some earlier body repaint.

Awesome!

Mine has a poor stamp for what may also be CD, but yours is upside down compared to mine.

Thank you!

Does anyone else have any other examples?

I just found another one.

3.23 stamp again, but it is on a 742 case this time.

I'll have to clean it & likely soak it in Evaporust when time allows it so I can get a decent photo.
