Hmm Well that makes sense Story about the motor is it was a street racing engine that the owner from NY brought down to coleman brothers and had built Then didn't pay the bill Then some friends of mine got it from Coleman brothers...
Looks like you have the block to the '70 RR that is for sale. Most likely an awkward conversation to follow........
Yep I thought so also
Does anyone recognize the car ? Or may have some knowledge of the owner? Not sure on what to do- guess i'll send a message to them Is that a broker or some sort of car search engine??
Yep that's what I thought Also there are no stamps up on the top in front of the intake?? Would it be an old warranty block? Casting date I if I remember correctly is 8/5/69 or 5/5/69
the looks like a typical hand stamp from the assembly line using the body stamp digits, the same digits with the correct font are on the edge of the machined area
there shouldn't be anything on the top pad except possibly the "WT" or "TW"
what's the "MN426" stamping info below the starter mounting?
Thanks Dan. Haven't looked there recently - last time I looked at the motor has been years ago. With all the hype about " Barn finds" I was wandering what exactly that motor came out of. That's why I took a quick look at the pad. Is there any other things I can look at to give any clues ?? I'll check it..
"Fake" can be a loose term when it comes to replacement blocks, etc. Dealers were actually allowed to re-stamp the numbers on replacement/warranty blocks/transmissions. Though, most were rarely done.
2947 assembly date shows a final assembly date of August 22nd 1969 which aligns with an early 1970 built car (the 0A VIN tells us its a Lynch Road 1970 production model car VIN). The VIN stamping may look odd but it looks perfectly legitimate to me. I don't see anything wrong with any of those stampings. .02
there is nothing replacement/warranty about this block, this is an "In Plant" fix - P R O D U C T I O N
here's an engine & transmission from a Super Bee from Lynch Rd. 6 months earlier, the middle three numbers on the engine were "RE-STAMPED" with the same characters used for the VIN on the OP's engine
did the OP ever track down the matching Road Runner
Thanks for the last several posts I've know of the engine for probably about 40 years It never had any kind of number swapping story that followed it. I was just curious about what it had came out of and I guess the 70 road runner ? looks like a match ..
I haven't contacted that guy- don't know if I want the aggravation? The engine seems to be in very good shape with no cracks or damage anywhere I was figuring on disassembly and check everything and reassemble and drop into the 65
